whadduuuuupppp....

I have not had a car I have cared about for a while...last few were beaters - the goal being NOT to spend money on them hehe

got a 21 apex 6mt and am thrilled with it. fun to drive...sounds decent...ok its a lil bumpy around town but i'm used to it now...looks pretty cool...all around generally pleased with this puppy and feel like throwing some mods at it. Trying to get as much perspective as possible...im kind of in the middle of nowhere (south dakota) not a ton of options for meeting up and seeing things in person...so somewhat reliant on experience here, you tube clips, etc.

first up is tires...bought it used with winter tires on it...nokian hakkapawhatever which are pretty badass. really pleased with them....we get all the seasons out here so im considering 4 options...Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4...Continental Extreme Contact DWS06+ - lightly considering Yokohama Advan A/s Sport+ and Falken Azenis FK460.

Whatcha think? I had decided on the Continentals but....then I undecided. 225/40R18. Price not too big of a concern. Daily driver + some weekend warrior spirited trips in the hills.

Grocery Getter Performance...stuff looks cool...thought I might try the throttle body spacer as first performancy mod...despite the price limited views and questionable results hehe. Any experience with that guy? With stock and/or aftermarket intake?

Might give the rear motor mount a go as well. Need some more road time first but on the list....

Intake intake intake....fuuuuuuuu. Tricky...Injen/HPS/AFE Takeda/AEM. Injen seems the most popular/tested. Best MAF location? Seems farther back on the pipe...maybe best location. Fairly acclaimed on here. Sounds good on youtube. Best hp/torque "claims."

HPS intake looks the cleanest...Takeda seems like a very good design...too closed? AEM had good sound clip...Leaning towards HPS...

Exhaust...I actually generally like the sound of the exhaust...I don't like the conical exhaust tip though...only appearance issue really screaming at me but ill deal with it later.

Gotta get back underneath and see if mine has the exhaust bottleneck...I do love the look of a dual rear quad tip setup....might be down the road someplace.

So far I replaced all the interior bulbs with leds...good start!

Any thoughts?

Welcome to the Apex club! All good choices on tires. I just replaced my OEM Dunlops with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 and they are so much better. The performance is better and a lot quieter. I also have a TRD intake and Sprint throttle controller. I left the exhaust since it has a nice tone to it

Hadnt seen the sprint throttle controller...was going to see how some other stuff effected the response first...the reviews of the GGP throttle spacer say it significantly helped with it...really curious about that hehe...maybe that extra space tricks the computer timing a bit or something idk pure conjecture. It's my first manual in 15 years...does feel like it needs a lil blip before getting going from standstill....am enjoying the IMT I may never learn to properly downshift with that!

Im not opposed to spending a few bucks...im not trying to spend 10k on it. I'll pay for Michelins....the right exhaust and potentially a tune at some point...but definately tires - spacer - intake - mount top the priority list.

I went with the throttle controller (Pedal Commander is also good) as it was an easy plug n play install with instant results. Besides the intake, that's all of the performance mods I've done. I have done a series of other cosmetic mods since new though.

Oh yeah the electronic parking brake….gaaaaa. No fun. That ones going to be tricky to figure out.

think i will start with GGP spacer and motor mount…see if it holds up to the reviews. I hope it does! Then figure out an intake.

theeeeeeen egr delete and amt tune.

HPS intake on the way....still debating tires...if Michelin has a rebate next month may go that route...should I go up a size...235? Gaaaa. Continentals look better for any gravel and longevity.

Next will be probably be AMT Stage 1 tune...then motor mount.

careful of the hps .. the only noted ones that have shown ZERO issues so far are takeda and injen (the one i use) - TRD also shows no problems but it is essentially oem

Would love to know your thoughts on getting rid of the EPB
well its a hope and dream hehe...gotta dig in some more...maybe find a way to disable abs and see if it lets the rear kick out like expected...i think how it works now if you finger it on the fly abs kicks in and starts braking all the wheels...maybe wire a kill switch to a wheel sensor...maybe one of the tuner guys can turn off the code if you delete it...a work in progress...I assume you could get a hatch console or one from another reason to get the actual components...all conjecture at this point.

Most common issues will be odd throttle anomalies / rough idle / C.E.L.

After you install i'd suggest checking everything over for leaks / make sure MAF is seated correctly in housing & i also suggest to unplug the battery before doing the install so when you re-connect it - it will relearn your idle / adjust AFR based on increased airflow etc...

Got the takeda intake for my girlfriends 2019 hatch cvt. Car had issues with the intake. Felt like the car had a stutter or missfire. Went through a whole bunch of back and forth with AEM and ended up sending it back and they couldnt find an issue and ended up just getting a refund. Also, the takeda intake sounded basically like the stock intake when we had it on for that short amount of time. Wouldnt reccomend

Curious...you're more interested in the "sound" of the intake?
No, I mostly wanted something that would help performance, look nice, and be durable. I just mentioned the sound aspect because most people that buy aftermarket intakes expect to gain some intake sound from it and the takeda sounded like stock.

I know there also is a removable "Plug" for more "sound" on the takeda ... as for issues I do believe you are the first but that doesn't mean it was installed correctly either.. could be user error same with aem but I have seen and had issues with aem in the past.

Didnt notice any difference with plug removed either. And trust me, it was installed correctly. Even uninstalled, installed stock intake, and reinstalled takeda to confirm issue
