I inherited my father's car (kind of, once the paperwork is done). I don't drive and I'm going to sell it or junk it but I want to warm it up and it's been out in the cold for over a month. It only reached freezing for one or two days, but still, it won't start.

I don't even know how to release the parking break. The manual says there's a lever with a button on the end, and shows a drawing, but I only saw two levers in the car and neither is the parking break as far as I could tell. The manual has another picture of the entire dashboard and steering wheel but there's no indication of a parking break in that picture. How do I make the break light go off?

And the battery light is on. I'm not sure if that's an issue or not. Maybe it was on because the engine wasn't running and the key wasn't in the lock position?

The oil light was off for one of my attempts, so I'm hopeful that won't be a big issue.

I think I know where to look next time. The manual doesn't say where the parking break is, but it may be in the same place as in this photo that I found:

I didn't look behind that front lever between the seats.

Hopefully I can warm it up with the oil and charge lights on.

I found the parking break and I released it as far as I could tell but the break light was still on, and the charge light was still on too. It make kind of a hum when I first tried starting it, then it made the regular starting sound but it didn't start. I'm going to look into just having it towed. It's not in my name and the owner is deceased. Anyone know the procedure for getting a deceased man's car towed and junked? I'm not the administrator of the estate or anything, but I have the death certificate if needed. I may post this to another section.
