joints cost amazingly high compared to the actual shaft. i used to work at a parts store, and we would always laugh when customers came in demanding to have a boot over a shaft. but whatever you wanna do... if you're having a shop install it, just get the whole shaft, as the labor involved on changing a boot takes longer than replacing a shaft. they have to pull it out either way to do either job.
