2007 Corolla S

Hello TN! I'm hoping some of you guys are interested in giving me an education :p

There used to be an awesome tutorial on 9thgencorolla.com before it went down on the type of wiring setup I'm trying to accomplish. I've seen tutorials that are similar but involve using a switch you need to flip every time you want them on or only when the doors open and close, and most of them are for 10th gen corollas.

Goal:
I want to wire two LED strips in the driver and passenger footwells that turn on either with DRL's OR when I actually flip the car lights on (I would prefer the latter). I don't care if they turn on and off when the doors open and close, I just want them to turn on and off with the lights.

What I Need Help With:
1. Where to tap the wires to make this possible.
2. Do I need fuses, relays, if I install a switch where would I place it?
3. Do I need to create a ground or are the wires I tap into already grounded?
4. Is it possible to overload a set of wires by adding these LED lights?

What I'm Installing:
2 12v LED Strips with their own set of two wires coming out of it and nothing else.

Possibile Option?:
I saw something I thought might work. There is this extra set of wires with a female adapter that don't plug into anything! I know that some of the older corolla's cigarette lighter's had a lit up ring around it and mine does not have that ring so I am assuming this could be the exact two wires I need to make this install possible because if it is the same cable in older versions of this car (earlier 9th gen) then it was wired to light up with DRL's.

One wire is green and the other is white with a black stripe. Which of course I don't know what they mean.

Thanks a lot to everyone who will help me out! Let me know if I need to clarify anything :D

The Canadian market 9gens also have that light up ring around the cig lighter (mine does), so that is why that wire is still there. ;)

The green wire is your 15A positive line, the white/black is the ground line.

I wouldn't worry about adding additional fuses, since that line is already fused (TAIL 15A fuse I believe). I have about 16 LEDs in various places tapped off that line and grounded back into the white wire, and have no issues with the setup.

Good to know. I said older generations had the illuminated ring but maybe it's not a US thing at all (perhaps someone else knows), I've just seen pictures of it and wished mine did that :) .

Where did you find the info on the wiring anyways? I didn't check the amps or fuse location but you were correct about the lines being pos and neg,

As far as progress, I've finished wiring the LED's and will revamp the OP soon to reflect that. They always light up with the car lights. I didn't realize how bright the strips I bought would be so either I'm going to have to cut them down or put some kind of film on them, anyone have a good suggestion? I was wondering if window tint will stick to the surface of these LED strips?

Didn't find that anywhere - I sat there with a multimeter and measured away. Knew they were illumination lines from the fact that they were hooked up to bulb in mine, which made it easy. :)

To be fair, though... if the line is predominantly white, it tends to be ground in this car but I wouldn't always count on that.
