help with horn and alarm

i finally got around today to wiring the horn into the alarm. the car is 92 camry and the horn trigger is the green/black wire from the steering wheel harness and it's negative polarity. the horn output on the alarm is also negative polarity. whether i wired it directly, with a relay, or just trying to ground that wire the horn can't be triggered. is there another way to trigger the horn?
