I am trying to change the rear brake pads on my 2004 Camry and when you take the bottom bolt out of the caliper it goes to the end of the threads and stops and won’t pull out after the threads is a smooth part with no threads but it won’t move at all so I can’t lift the caliper up to get the pads off. The bolts are 14MM. Are there any special tools or tricks to get it out

I have rear drums on my Camry, so I cannot help you with the exact advice but in general there suppose to be a rubber boot. Can you move it away and see if something is holding the bolt?

The bolt suppose to come out fairly easy.

Good luck,
Sam

Thank you yes there is a rubber boot I just went and bought a replacement bolt and boot for it in case I break it they said you have to pull really hard to get the bolt to come out.

I used to have the same problem until I threw those pieces of rubber away.

I eventually found a way to get those bolts out fast.

I used my electric impact, spun it fast while putting pressure on the bolt, and pulled it outwards....not sure what the purpose of the rubber boot is...maybe to prevent that bolt from falling out if it ever gets loose????

Yes I think so I finally got it out I got it out by getting to the point the threads are out and used my pry bar to pry it out and they came out I used a lot of grease on the boots so hopefully they will be easy next time

Yipes... You guys need to learn to do those brakes correctly. You can start looking on YouTube, and once you watch someone else do the rear brakes a few times, graduate to Eric The Car Guy videos.

I wouldn't use grease...I made that mistake, and for rubber, I think it just expands it.

I would use a grease that is meant for rubber....or maybe someone else could chime in on recommendations.

Grease "could" also make it harder to get out next time from all the heat cycles brakes goes through.

Good luck...
