I am looking for some feedback on the Supertop.
What kind of problem ( if any ) did you encounter?
Leak, Snow load, Road noise, Rip and tear, replacement part, customer service ,etc....
What is the life expectency?

Any other "fabric top out there ? I received an e-mail from Can Back today informing me that there will be a Top for the Tacoma in +/- 3 month and the cost will be around $1200.00 ( including shipping to Canada )

I will appreciate any info i can get.

had mine on for a month. first week went on a 2500km road trip with it. pretty solid on the highway, even had it in very high winds without problem. also encountered an ice storm that deposited a 2" thick layer of ice on top, it weighed it down and water starting pooling on top but i caught it in time and cleaned it off. leakes a little around the edges but nothing a little messing with weatherstripping and sealing spray cant fix.

only other thing i can say is when you install it do it in a warm garage or you have no hope in hell of getting all the clips in.

if you are in the ontario like me, checkout national 4wd in burlington. decent price and they had it in stock.

Thanks for the tips, i am living at the other end of the country in British Columbia.
How much did it cost you?
Do you have the 5ft or the 6 ft bed?
Choice of color?
Side windows?

it was $620 + tax

comes in tan or black i believe, i chose black as i have a black truck. mine is for a 6' bed and came with removable side windows that are tinted. should also mention, the windows scratch pretty easily. mine has some bad ones already where the windows rub the bar

I've had the Bestop for almost a year. Here are my comments:

1) The third brake light is a very poor design with only 1 plastic mount. I broke the first one off-road last year from the vibration. Bestop sent a replacement for free but have since broken it again, this time just driving on the road. The plastic mount can't handle vibration well. I'm not even going to bother anymore.

2) A couple of my zippers are starting to come apart at the seams a little. Nothing major yet but I wouldn't pull too tightly when it's cold or they'll rip more.

Now those are my only two complaints. It's been great for the dogs and using some 303 Aerospace on it every couple of months helps a lot. The cheapest place I found it online was 4x4replacement parts.com.

I've had mine for a few months now. I love it and it works great. I haven't needed to fold it down yet, but at around $550-$60 I can buy another one and still be under the cost of a fiberglass one.

Zippers stick a little with the salt and mud. I keep forgetting to look for bees wax to lubricate them.

Mine was a pain in the ass to stretch out the first time, but it rained the next few days so it molded to shape.

The threads on the side rails of mine were too short and stripped one of the cap nuts so I took the washer off. I didn't use the washers on the rest of the threaded studs on the side rails, and used some 1/4-20 lock nuts I had laying around instead of the cap nuts.

I saw a couple other people mention the brake light breaking before I got mine so I didn't bother installing it.

My only complaint is the back window is too stiff to flip over the back and stay when it's cold. You almost have to get someone else to hold it while loading, or roll it up and loop the straps around the end of the bar to keep it out of the way.

I haven't had any problems folding the top when cold but I sure wouldn't be able to put everything back together. The top does get very stiff but it's easy to fold down if needed. You would need a well heated garage or sunlight to stretch the fabric back out though. I haven't had any problems with the zippers with dust or mud except the previously mentioned seam splitting a little but that's not from dirt. I will put some more bees wax on my zippers this summer. I did it last year and haven't since.

Have you had any problem folding it when the temperature is below freezing .

How are those zippers after you drive on a muddy dirt road or just the road salt?

Whould you recommend one?

Thanks

I have had mine for two weeks now and love it. Yeah the cold makes it stiff, but still useable. I just got back from a roadtrip with some high winds and it held strong. For the windows I am gong to go to the local sign shop and have them put a layer of clear vinyl on each side to that is what gets scratched and when it is too bad, just pull it off and put a new layer on. I got mine from 4x4replacementparts.com and got a great deal on it and even better customer support. They really did an outstanding job.

It would be nice to see Pics of the Supertop on Trucks,

It would help me decide on color etc...
My Tacoma is Silver streak , long box

Which color would look nicer on it?
I could be wrong, but the color choice for the Tacoma is like the old Model T - any color you want as long as it is black.

I have never seen clear windows offered. Just tinted. And the last time I looked at Bestops website. They only offered the top in black. They use to offer it in a dark grey as well as black. I know this for a fact because I have one. The dark grey must not have sold as well. However, I did see that they now offer plastic mesh windows as an option.

I thought they had a tan/khaki option, but maybe I'm thinking of the windowless Supertopper by another company.

Thaks for the Pics,Your truck looks good,
What kind of light did you install inside the bed, is it LED?
How long have you had this top? and are you happy with it
Thanks. I've had it for around 8 months-1yr. I've lost track though! Works great so far. I used to have to arrange cargo to fit under my hard folding cover (turn a compressor sideways and remove 1 wheel, stack other things just right). Now I just toss everything back there and it stays dryer than with the old cover.

The lights are an underbody LED kit I got from www.vminnovations.com for around $64 with shipping. It came with 4 tubes, control box, and 2 wireless remotes. I put the two smaller tubes in the bed, and two longer ones under the doors. Now I can see what I'm stepping in before getting in/out, or what's under the truck while offroading.
