Justin here, have always had Toyota's and wanting to start doing more maintenance on my own and learn as much as I can! Currently I have a 2002 Toyota Avalon XLS (I am a true second owner) at about 133,000 miles and have all the service records for the lifetime of the vehicle from a Toyota Dealership here in Los Angeles. Just started the maintenance myself and am trying to keep everything on clock with the mileage (which can get pricey if you are not just doing oil changes and repairs as they present themselves).
Looking to do the shocks (front and back, are worn down), replacing (some) of the motormounts, as well as a transmission oil change/service (which I know is a tricky topic in of itself). Does anybody maybe have a recommendation of where I can start, possibly a trustworthy mechanic with a good service record/reputation here in Los Angeles that takes the time to communicate with their customers and not be vague about service repairs as I learn more about servicing my own car completely? Thanks guys any recommendations of where to start are appreciated and Im already on this forum reading all the threads I can that relate to my next set of service points. Very excited to try and maintain this car to 200k!
Update: I ended up getting hit by a 18 wheeler and had to pretty much give this car away. Picked up a cheap V4 candy that I couldn’t keep up with the maintenance which I ended up trading in and picking up a more reliable 1 owner Avalon again (both cars you may have seen on this forum). Mother is offering to help me trade up my car for a nicer car so I have posted this new Avalon for sale and will probably be selling it soon. Thank you for the help on the forum and I may have questions about maintaining my late father’s Lexus here soon.
