When its pretty cold (-20ish) and i start my 90 GTS it idles at about 2800 rpm for about 2min and then gradually goes down to the normal 1100 rpm idle speed....i know that toyota's tend to idle high when its a cold start but is it normal that its this high?

in fact normal idle itself is quite high, when its supposed to be 700 RPM for a car equipped with a manual transmission and 900 RPM for an automatic-equipped one

and cold idle is supposed to be around 2000 RPM

Yeah that sounds about right.. well, I've seen mine go up to 2500 on really cold days and then it comes down and sits around 1000rpm.

Man I wish I has a tach so I could tell what mine idles at when cold. I have a bad exhaust so it sounds like 5000rpms ;)

P.S. the reason your car does that is cause its cold. Its trying to warm it's self up.
