HI

I just bought my highlander 04 and I'm very happy with it.

One thing that bothers me is the fan noise. Even on the lowest fan settings its still very noisy in my opinion.

I dont know if this is normal.

The noise is constant.

Well I bought the car from a dealer and when I pickup my other keys and floormats I will have them check it out. It will be in the end of this week.

Cabin filter was replaced 100 miles ago, according to the maintenance log.
Incl. other other wear and tear items.

Typesix in what condition do you mean the fan is not noticeable?

Engine idle + car standing still + low fan speed

Engine off + car standing still + low fan speed

Driving + low fan speed

And thanks typesix for replying to my thread

Engine idle + car standing still + low fan speed+radio on, fan is not noticeable. With radio off, can hear slight noise. Anything above 1st speed is noticeable even with radio on. I only use 2nd speed to more rapidly cool or heat the interior and then go down to 1st speed once comfortable and this can usually maintain comfortable interior. There is no noticeable motor whine at any speed, but would probably be drowned out by the noise of air thru the vents.

Thanks typesix

Well my fan is more noisier than yours.

Well I will see what the dealer says later on. If this is normal I have to come up with a solution to quiet the fan down.

I did check the part section and they are 3 models of the fan motor to buy.

40 to 170$ so maybe one of them will be more quiet than the one I have now.

Maybe do a customize sound padding or insolation.

At least I dont have to do the whole cabin like I did with my old car. It took one week but sure it was a quiet ride.

Well just back from the dealer.

Here is what they told me...

They found some "debris" in there. So why does it still sound EXACTLY the same. They reported back on the paper that I received" operate according to specs".

Well I'm going to visit another Toyota dealer and pretend to be a "paying" potential customer to see what they have to say.

I will also see if I can find some other highlanders to compare it with.

Until then I just blame my ears for my excellent hearing.

UPDATE:

Well I got back from the dealer and tested a HL-04, HL-05 and HL-06

They are all dead quiet.

Just ignition on, no engine, no radio + low speed ----->cant hear fan just dead silence.

Back to the dealer...
