Check your car insurance for coverage. It may be covered
You might also check with your homeowners insurance to see if it is covered under personal property since it was in your wife's purse.

You will need the new SmartKey fob and the other SmartKey fob with you to allow your dealer to program the new one into your Highlander Smartkey system

If there were any credit cards, bank checks, personal info stolen be sure to close the accounts and open new ones and put a credit freeze on your accounts via one of the credit bureau's (Experian, TransAmerica, EQUIFAX)
I lost my valet key, so I had to use the secord key for the automatic start. Now I only have one key. The dealer says 200 bucks, one key and the car and they will make me a new one. Is there any place I could go to get a chip key for less money. I don't like not having a spare key..
I will research this idea and will post info here -

I am a firefighter and the wife was at the store when she was robbed at knife point... the bad guy cut the purse strap - shoved her down and took off - she bounced up and gave chase - glad he was faster - would not have been good if she caught up.....

Got the call from our local PD - took the engine over to comfort the wife - by the time I arrived, I had already canceled two of the three cards and did the third at the scene... NO charges were made - So, the only thing lost was the "Smart Key" AND I had a Navy/Army dog tag with Reward - "Cell number" I used this site to have the dog tag made... http://armynavy.com/ Since this is the only way the bad guys will get any $$$ out of this deal - I am hopping in a day or so - I will get a call on my cell - "hey dude, found this in the street - how much is the reward" Ya, never know... the tag cost about $5 for two... I suggest everyone get some and put on your keys... just put your cell phone only... NOT your HOME....

More to follow when I find the $$$$ answer to our quesiton..

get new smart keys and get them to reset the ecu.. and reprogram the reseted ecu to the new keys
the stolen key wont work anymore but you should be able to get the old key you still have reprogrammed

i never had to go thru this yet but i could be wrong
I have another post here on the forum - I got my ext warr from Midwest Toyota at a GREAT price - I emailed them today about a key and he will get back to me on Monday - I also contacted a friend at Modesto Toyota here and he said he will give me his own discount to get a new key programed - also will call me on Monday - be interesting to see the two "costs" and compare... Thanks for the advice.

You are wrong. That is not cheap. This is a whole new ECU and then the stolen keys will not work and you will get all new keys. Its the only to 100% sure way that the stolen keys are not used.

you can clear the ecu of its codes/link to the original keys (in his case the one stolen key) using toyotas techstream without replacing ECU (only the older toyotas need to replace ECU since it cant be reseted using a scanner)
i have reseted a few ecus because customers have somehow lost all there keys .. ill try to get more info monday at work.. if i remember hehe

Thanks - really do appreciate the help...
Wouldn't this be a worry the car will be stolen, if the thief knows the approximate location of the car? All he/she has to do is unlock the car with the unit, lights will flash revealing which car it is and off she goes...
Am I missing something here?

In theory you are right.... and the bad guy does have her lic and now the address - however, the Toyota is Never outside the garage and other than that - they would have to stake us out and follow us in the toyota, then they would have to know they 'fob' is a keyless system - the 'fob' is just that with NO key hanging on it... so, that part I am not all that concerned - I have contacted Geico and it is covered under 'com' $50 det... I still need to call them and see if this claim will effect our rates???
Just found out the my Geico - comp insurance will cover the smart key = Key cost $255 and $95 to reporgram it - that $95 covers up to three smart keys programing - SO, I will have the spare smart key reprogrammed - and the stolen one will no longer be any good... I will post again when this is all done to let everyone know just how much of a PIA the programing was...
