I was curious, my Venza is new (2023) so I have the free 1 year subscriptions still active. When not using car play, which I only use for trips not my daily drives, it appears the navigation screen is the Home Screen, what happens when your subscriptions expire and you don’t renew them what becomes your Home Screen an error message that your subscription expired?
Maybe no one knows yet as it’s only the 2023s that have this stripped down Home Screen setup and everyone is within their free trial yet.
Curious because I don’t plan to renew my navigation subscription for $16 month.

Another reason to look before you leap into anything new. Sometimes the old tech is preferable to the new, fresh and updated version.
They should make it so it’s backward compatible in case you aren’t happy with the “updates”.

Are you sure it’s 1 year? For the 2021 and 2022 I know for sure it is 3 years on the navigation.
not sure what happens after the trial. My guess is that you get no updates , that is a no brainer. I bet the map doesn’t calculate the best route based on traffic. I’ll have to wait for find out.

Yes it’s 1 year On the Toyota website. I’m pretty sure navigation won’t work at all once subscription expires, navigation is cloud based is my understanding starting with the 2023 venza.

I know for sure that the maps are way out of date. We have POI's on our '23 for businesses that have been gone for 10 years or more. When we took our '21 on Rte 66 the nav led us down roads that didn't exist and to park entrances that were dead end streets. Started using maps on our phones to get around.

Bastards! Paying for an inferior product.

Sadly the auto makers SUCK at GPS Navigation. Yet they want to charge you for shite service?!

I guess they must be shareholders I the evil Google, Waze, Apple Maps, etc.

I don’t recommend spending extra for built-in navigation. Just use your phone, or take your trusty Garmin GPS with you when headed where cell service is spotty. I also keep a road atlas in the car on trips if I need to go old-school for some reason.

My Camry’s non-subscription Home Screen is just a user-selected suite of things. In my case it is the energy monitor, audio, and phone book.

I'm an "old school" guy who's never owned a vehicle with factory navigation, nor had a car radio with Apple Car Play.

If the Venza has both, what displays in the car when you bring up maps using ACP? Does it display the Apple maps and routing instead of the Toyota maps? If so, will that still be functional once the Toyota subscription expires?

I particularly like Free trials for some services have been extended – in a big way. Maybe just the pessimist in me but words have meaning: ".....for two of their connected services. Safety Connect and Service Connect, both valuable post-purchase features, are available as a free trial for up to 10 years.

Neither service of which has anything to do with providing Nav service. Nav is on a free trial for 1 YEAR which technically falls under the wording of UP TO 10 YEARS......or up to 100 years for that matter.

Translation: Free trials for some services and up to 10 years....still translates to 1 year for the Nav system and you're SOL without a cellphone with Internet access. Falls under the category of You ain't getting something for nothin'.

People are always going to like something for nothing, sounds like a MK song, lol. But my point is we all are drawn in by those marketing words like only 3.99, 4 bucks is how I see it, psychological manipulation to create the illusion you’re getting a better deal by saving a whole penny ! Wow. So if having a feature you need more than want, might be all it takes to close the deal and buy into it. Good for you and having that justification. It’s all arbitrary and in the end it’s really your money, spend it as you see fit. 🇺🇸

Hey just curious, I’ve yet to see a new Ve in person. I was calling a dealer about whether a rav4 hybrid listed on their site was available and asked the sales person about a venza. She said the venza was smaller than the rav4 which made no sense to me. It’s obviously longer but she said the cargo space was smaller because it’s not as tall inside the back as a Rav4 . Is that true or is she way off?

Sorry to steal your thread but just wanted to hear from an owner.

It is lesser in size due to the height but floor size is the same. The rear hatch opening is 24" high if i remember right, i have not had an issue hauling my stuff so far but i am ready. I have a trailer

You are a 100% right, but for me i could care less if i loose the Nav. it's so out dated who cares. What upsets me more is having to buy something i don't want to get something i want. Like my last Hondas ACC. never worked right auto high beams never worked. They are all the same nothing but BS........

I pay $80 a year for Safety Connect and $80 for Remote Connect for my ‘21 Venza. I didn’t renew Destination Assist and I won’t renew Dynamic Navigation — Apple CarPlay and Maps works better for me. I have no issue with these services being made available by subscription. Find value in them? Great. Pay for it. Don’t find value? Great. Don’t renew it. Simple.

My insurance company gives me a discount for maintaining a Safety Connect subscription, so it partially offsets the cost too.

Side note RE: Torque News. Torque News is an SEO-optimized site using ”contributors” (i.e. anyone) who write “news” articles and get paid for each click. That’s why the articles are mostly awkward filler text designed for search engines. It’s also why those authors practically beg you to click on their other articles or link every other sentence to another article.
