How do you adjust a 91 Previa Headlight(s)?

There should be some stems with something like an 8mm plastic end you can get a wrench onto that allows you to adjust the lights around.
I just finished installing headlights from a '96 van on my '91 Previa, cut off the HB1 socket and crimped in a new HB2 socket. I put Philips X-Treme Vision 9003 bulbs in there and used the 3M headlight restoration kit to clear up the foggy lenses and it made a big difference. I need to aim/adjust the beam but am missing all of the 8mm plastic ends that go on the stems. Can't get any of them to budge; I tried several pairs of pliers but they slip and end up mangling the threads on the stem ends. Any ideas on other tools/methods to use?
I shove shims where needed on my 95. If your 91 is adjustable that's better than mine. I don't recall any adjustments on my 91, and I've never seen any on my 95.
My 8mm plastic ends are stripped. I use vise-grips.
