My son has a 1999 Solara and has been told it won't pass inspection because of play in the tie rod ends. Dealer says inner tie rod ends need to be replaced at a cost of $1,300 which my son can't afford. I'd like to replace them for him. Can anyone give me a tutorial on how to do it and likely problems I may encounter?
Thank you.

$1300 !!!
Sounds like the stealership is tryin to rape you. I had my local mechanic, whom i trust very well, replace my lower tie rod cuz it wouldnt align correctly. Its was only $150 for parts and labor. I live in Texas, but i dont see anyone paying more than $200 per rod. I know this is kinda late news but I hope you get everything worked out for your son.
