I got the Firestone Ride Rite air bags. Easy bolt on install, allows up to 5000lbs and can be adjusted for your preference in ride. I wanted to keep factory ride (not TSB as many have said that it was very stiff).

I love the air bags....I think its my best mod investment yet. Before air bags, the bed would sag when I hauled firewood. The factory springs suck.

Thumbs up for air bags. Im sure others will chime in with other options and opinons.

I'm far from an expert... But isn't the load limit set upon a number of factors? Things like engine torque, weight capacity of the composite bed, weight capacity of the frame and suspension..

I would think that you could beef the over all amount of weight by adding air suspension or even the ever popular add a leaf set up. But not to the capacity you are looking for. But again I'm not an expert...

^Exactly right.
I concur.

Half ton pickups are called "half ton" for a reason. If you are going to haul weights like that, you have the wrong truck. If you need to move that much weight on a routine basis, you would be better off with a trailer, then you can haul up to 6000#.

Even with air bags you'll still need to beef up the leafs. Either with the rear leaf TSB or with a add-a-leaf. Don't forget you'll need to beef up the tires too. Load range C is minimum, Load rang D will be more stable.
Why would I need a rear TSB or AAL even with air bags. I dont think that is necessary. The air bag are attached to the bed frame and frame of the truck. When the bag are inflated, it takes load off of the springs, it does add any other pressure. Weight is placed on the bags.
