I have a 1996 Corolla DX 5-speed, and my e-brake needs tightened. I have never adjusted the e-brake on any car, let alone the Corolla. Does anybody have instructions/pics of how to do it?

Thanks in advance.

well theres 2 ways of doing it. the first and best way is to adjust at the shoe adjusters in the drum. to do so: remove rear wheels, e-brake off, spin the drum by hand, if it keeps spinning on its own, shoes need adjusment. remove drum, if needed, hit on the drum on the wheel side in multiple places with hammer till it pops outwards. there should be a adjuster with teeth kinda that pushes the shoes out. using a flathead screwdriver, turn it a few clicks, then put the drum back on and spin it again. if its still spinning a lot, adjust it more till it grabs and spins less but not till it doesnt move. do the same for the other side. check ebrake handle, if its still coming up a lot (more than 3-5 clicks) then you have to adjust the cable, to do so: remove rear centre console, there should be a adjuster nut that you can tighten or loosen. turn it and check ebrake handle a few times to make sure your within 3-5 clicks. if it is, reinstall centre console and your done
