I have a 96 camry 5SFE engine with a SRI. and its been bugging me forever, what can i do, to suspend this thing in the air, and not rest against the battery just to damage the filter, and also rest against the wheel well. Any ideas? i went to a hardware store hoping i would find a metal bracket that would screw right underneath where the factory intake box sat at, and then position the intake off the battery and hold it secure... Please help, i'll buy you a cookie!:naughty::clap:

i have this same problem, however i like it because i dont have the bottom to the original airbox so its right where that open hole is so i assume its sucking up some cool air down there however there are mounting brackets out there you can purchase or make your own.

I Did It

I HAVE THE SOLUTION

today i installed a short ram intake. i used some metal brakets that were flexible with holes in them to support the filter. I used the nuts and bolts that held the air box in before to hold the brackets in those same holes. Its perfect. Also if you kept the stock piping like i did your going to want to remove the black box that hangs of it and plug that hole thats left from it you will get amazing performance that way without having to get a different pipe.

but anyways ill see if i can get a pic of my homemade support. it looks kind of messaed up but it works.

i have a friend with a celica gt with the same setup, and i think it sucks...

actually i have the mounting bracket that came with my intake, but i have no where to put it, no way of attaching it to the intake and the closest spot i can put it is underneath and its like angles right into my filter, so that aint gonna happen... Where do i put this mounting bracket?

LOL... i was thinking that, but mine isnt that long enough and i dont have a place to bolt it near the filter... like that... sigh

i saw what someone did to a sienna here = http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=165935&highlight=intake+mounting+bracket

and that could work, i just need to find a strong peice of metal or plastic that i can form and shape to box off and and close my intake away from the engine compartment... but its at an angle so therefore almost impossible to do... im so sad!

yeah i did it and used the spot, and as i secured it, i stripped the bolt... so now its got a permenant home! LOL

only problem is come summer, it gets 100+ degrees here and it really gets bogged down in the same... i do need to come up with something to block the engine heat from accessing the intake... any ideas? how about that Sienna idea... any slight idea? i was thinking cheap garbage can cut in half so i can still bolt it to those holes there and have it angle up and sheild it from the engine bay, cover it in that heat resistant stuff... would work?

the car is gonna bog down like that in the heat regardless ... especially in 100+ *F, even the stock airbox is taking in hot air

i just drove it as-is

yeah try something like that garbage can or whatever or maybe some venting like used in homes. And just cover it all with insulation or great stuff or something and ur good to go..haha
