How to title a new thread

The best way to title a new thread you are starting, is to put the subject of your thread in the title. That way when someone wants to do a search on that subject, it will appear in their search.

If you want information on removing a window motor, please don't title your thread "How to?"
Title it "Window motor removal", Window motor", "How to remove window motor?", or something similar.

We have frequently asked questions, that have been discussed many times, but because the subject is not in the title, it makes a search fruitless. There is a lot of good information on here that is hidden behind undiscriptive titles.

Before you create your title, think of what you would look for in a search on that subject, and then make it as easy as possible for the rest of us.

I am not trying to preach, but I think it will help everyone of us some day, if we try to do it this way.

Moderator please put this in the Read Me section.

Donald has a point. At least a search does find information in the body of the posted thread as well as the title. The title does help in identify the interest to the thread. I personally add various adjectives or whatever that will pique the interest of readers to actually look at the thread and hopefully submit a response.
I'm going to take a second to pimp my properly titled thread:

How-To: Disable the door chime

Give me love.

At first I read "tapped" as "taped" and got a REALLY weird mental picture... :ugh3:

I like this thread, educate the noobies... Otherwise we will keep seeing threads where people see "title" and they write "Mr Smith" :yikes:

I see tons of those on kijiji, craigslist, etc. :)
Hmm I never really thought of it like that, but that's a good point!
Also, if your thread is titled "help me please!!!111!!!" I tend not to even look at them becasue they have dumb titles, as I'm sure a lot of the other experienced posters do the same.
I'd also add that if after creating a thread you realize the title is not right for some reason, then don't hesitate to contact a moderator or super mod and ask them to correct it for you. They're there to help.

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
