I'm slowing down at this light that usually has the habit of turning green on me when I'm almost stopped, then when it did turn green I stepped back on the gas and vrooom to 4-5k rpm and no increase in speed..."huh wtf" then BAM grabs the gear on it's way down the revs and goes.

Not funny. Think I'm gonna drop a can of Lucas tranny fix in there to see if maybe it wouldn't be related to dirty parts and have it flushed next week. It's almost a year since last time anyway.

Almost exactly a year ago, Dex III, tranny flush @ garage at around 130 000km.

Some forum entries on other websites I've searched sometimes attribute this to temperature change because of the time of year but that seems pretty far fetched to me.

It's never done that before either so I'm not exactly worried but you keep thinking wtf was that after it happens to you, and I'm especially paranoid with my cars so yeah...

More importantly, when was the las time you checked the trans fluid level?

I checked it when I got back from work. Left idle, circled through all the gears, left the engine running, it's red, doesn't smell bad but for some reason I suck at getting accurate reading on those sticks, it always looks like it's somewhat overfilled and it's the only fluid in the car I don't change myself, always at Toyota specialist.

It might just be a random occurance too, car only has 145 000km but I suspect it did more city driving in it's life than my previous one. I'm also 99% certain that I wasn't slipping on an ice patch
