an '06 Impala SS. 14k miles, Sport Red Metallic with Neutral Cloth interior. It's beautiful, and its figgin fast.

Ok not really, but damn I still love the car. It's my grandfathers, and he likes driving my Camry so much he lets me drive his car. I have it until Wednesday. I miss my Camry already... :(

nice! dang.. 5.7L V8? haha.. well I suppose it IS the SS version.

not feeling the shiny steering wheel but otherwise, it looks pretty good. Love the polished wheels!

Btw, mind keep track of FE? haha. Just curious to see how DoD really helps in mpg.

That damn DoD doesn't do crap... it might give the car a 1MPG advantage, but otherwise it doesn't help. The car gets 18MPG in a mixture of city and highway, which is what my mom's Yukon XL with the same engine is getting w/o the DoD. Then again... I have a heavy foot! :D

I really love the body of the car, hate the wollowy suspension, hate the torque steer, and absolutely love the power. Too bad it has that typical GM thing... lackluster build quality. Car needs a new remote key fob as the other one is loosing power, and the steering column makes a clicky sound. According to the friendly people at the Cadillac forums, the car needs a new drive shaft or something to the effect of that. Otherwise, it's been a great car.

thats nice. i still hate GM for making it FWD. they had the ability but had we had to wait till the G8 to get a real performance sedan. though ive diven one of the monte carlo with that engine and it is quite fast.

The worst part is that GM is killing the RWD Impala, which was starting to sound quite promising. However, the G8 looks like a nice solution for this cars problem!

I always though Impalas SS are 5.7L RWD. This is 400cc smaller and FWD...WTF?

My co-worker has an older purple one and it hauls ass, but the ride is so floaty...
Yeah the '94-'96 was, but GM killed that car off for some reason despite strong sales. As for this one, it's much better than the '04-'05 version. GM used a Supercharged 3800 Series II V6, slapped some SS badges on it and had the audacity to call it a real Super Sport.

Haha... yeah it isn't the prettiest car in the world, but it's friggin fast. Along with that, it's much more comfortable than my Camry. :)

It's called torque, 323 ft*lbs of it. . . . .

Stock:

Category.........Impala................Avalon.......................Camry

Displacement:....5.3l.....................3.5l............................3.5l

Power/Torque:...303hp/323tq.........274hp/254tq...............268hp/248tq

Weight:............3764...................3495..........................3589

1/4 Mile............14.2 @ 101...........14.9 @ 97.1................14.6 @ 99.7

0-60:...............5.6......................6.5............................6.1

600' Slalom:......60.5....................61mph........................64mph

Skidpad:..........0.81g...................0.80g.........................0.79g

Fuel Economy:..18/28(regular).......22/30(Premium)...........22/31

Seems the extra 1.8l (and 2 cylinders) really did not cause all that much of a mpg difference (4/2 respectively). Take into account that its a whole second faster to 60 than the Avalon, and .5 quicker than the smaller Camry, that's not too bad.

Where the LS4 really shines is the aftermarket performance potential. Just a premium fuel tune from Diablo (or similar) and you bump those power figures up to 323hp/347tq. . . . . . .your easily into the high 13's with those numbers. And let's not forget, this is with a 4 speed auto, not the "trick" 6 speeds in the Toyota's.

I will agree, however, the FWD and abundance of torque is not a good match, but these SS Impala's sure are fast, regardless.

Dyno Chart for Monte Carlo SS (stock vs tuned), same motor/trans as Impala:
