I want auto up/down for my windows

Anyone ever try to switch out the power window switches from a es300 to a camry so that you can get auto up/down. Hopefully it's that easy. I also want to try and switch out my moonroof opener with one from a solara or es300 that closes by itself and you don't have to hold the button down. That is so annoying to me.

camrys come with auto down power windows. the gen 3 had it, so does my solara and the gen 5. only driver window tho, would be nice for passenger as well. i like the auto sunroof a lot, 1 touch and its open\closed\tilted
I know i got auto down for my window only. I want it all auto. :D
oh shit ALI G. I love that show. Anyways yeah I'm lazy. I want my car to have everything a lexus has. It's an xle so it's a good start. I just added an auto dimming mirrow with a compass, I like it alot.
I couldn't see anything external in the wd, you could try swapping switches in the master panel as a simple test.
Sounds like a good idea.
Do you have to remove the door panel to get at it?
I don't *think* it will work...

Im going to try this. I'll pick one up at a junk yard and see if it works. *crossing fingers*
I want one touch sunroof too! Let me know if you find out how
might want to check if there is a computer for that or if it is in the circuitry of the switch panel itself. you work at toyota, ask a tech to check in the electrical manuals for the lex
Good idea. I'm actually going to take my manager's master window switch out of his 98 es300 and put it in my car if he'll let me.
let us know how it works , autoloc has a kit for this just in case u didnt know
I couldn't find the part on their website that makes it auto up/down. Got a link?
nah i dont , maybe is ws just automatic down for all windows
I investigated this a while back looking at the GS300. The auto up only functions because of the safety features built into the windows. If you apply pressure on them for X seconds they roll back down as it's assumed that something (or someone) was stuck in the window. The sunroof does the same thing. Now, as far as I know of (in my Gen3) the windows don't have this safety feature as you can't roll them auto up. The Gen 4+'s may have it, and make the switch swaps easy and legal. But I'm not sure.

So, technically, you can hack switches in to make them do this, however in doing so it's illegal because you're bypassing the safety mechanisms. (I believe)
My gen 4 XLE doesn't have it either... just auto open- drivers side and auto open on the sunroof. I can't see how it would be illegal. We aren't that regulated yet are we? I'm just not sure it would work. Might malfunction if all sensors aren't present. Now if you actually used the motor and the switch cluster from the Lex, I imagine the sensors are built into the motor itself...
I dunno, its worth a try with just the switch, but even the motor wouldn't be THAT much work.
Grr... lost that post because it logged me out.

Real quick summary:
There's no law on the books about it at this moment, but there is a large lobbying effort to get the law signed into effect.

This law would require two types of safeties:
1) Switches that require positive action to roll up the window, i.e. Switches that a child could step on and roll up the window would fail here.
2) Obstruction "anti-trap" sensors like those on newer vehicles. Looks like many vehicles added these in 2003 or 2004.

For the moment you could bypass these w/o issues, but if it became a law, bypassing them would be like disabling the smoke detectors in a airplain bathroom. In theory, that would be against the law.
I don't know about the ES330, but here's one switch Toyota should add to all its cars:

A switch that with one touch would CLOSE ALL THE WINDOWS IN THE CAR.

What a joy that would be, instead of having to close them all individually when you're leaving the car.
You could get a car alarm to do that but I agree that would be nice.

VW has been doing that for a while now.. all you have to do is hold the key in the locked position and it closes everything from the windows to the moonroof
