I would like a vehicle I am in full control of, not the other way around.

Has anybody here successfully disabled TSS to their complete satisfaction?

You can turn it off in the instrument settings but you'll have to do it everytime you start the vehicle and PCS light off will be illuminated. There is no option to turn it off in techstream. It's part of the ECM programming.

There's a way to disable it but it requires putting in a LS swap.
LS swap?

Well, I would want something permanent.

Having to turn off everything when the motor is started everytime is not convenient.

I had disconnecting wires in mind.

But maybe on second thought, customize the TSS so it's not so annoying instead of putting it totally out of commission.....

I've doing some Googling. I don't like the idea that Lane Departure can actually snatch the truck out of your hand even if you intend to pull out of your lane and stop on the side of a road to let an emergency vehicle pass. I have been reading that some of the TSS settings can be toned down in terms of sensitivity. The LANE thing might be the thing I would want least sensitive. Most highways have notches in the shoulder to wake up people drifting off the road. It's best not to drive while fatigued anyway.


I once almost ran over a little boy who was walking in very close in front of my tall 1995 Ford F150 truck until the person riding shotgun in my truck yelled at me to stop. I do like the feature that can help avoid hitting an unseen pedestrian.

I might just reduce the settings on some things in TSS instead of trying to turn the whole thing off.

Here's the technical service bulletin (TSB) in case you have the dealership use their Techstream to set the settings fer you. ;)

That would be super if I could just set the Lane Departure to the least sensitive setting and make it stick permanently.

One would hope that all the smart tech radar stuff would make the vehicle actually safer to drive and not be a nuisance.

If I were to buy a new 2019+ Toyota truck, I would want the stuff set to where it is the least nuisance.

If it saves a small child in front of my truck from getting run over due to lack of driver visibility on my part that would be a godsend. If it tries to not let me pull off the highway during a police traffic stop or slams the brakes for no apparent reason, that's a bad thing. It should make driving safer but not more dangerous.

The best safety feature is a live human driver that's competent, attentive and well-alert. I prefer a competent HUMAN to control a vehicle, not tech.

Lane departure won't prevent you from making manuvers. It will just give an annoying beeping sound with an ever so slightly nudge in the beginning. You can set automatic braking to it's lowest setting and it will stay there. All of the safety features have a sensitivity setting that will stick where you want it.

I don't want the damn thing beeping every time I drift slightly right or left as shown in this video:



The grooves in the highway shoulder do a good job of waking up serious lane drifters.

I could not live with the lane thing beeping about every ten seconds if the car's not perfectly centered.

What can be done about that lousy beeping in terms of settings except cut the wires to the beeper speaker?

I know yer vehicle is a Tundra and not a Tacoma but according to this Tacoma owner, it seems that you can use Techstream to change the setting to last state so you don't have to keep turning things off every time you start the vehicle. At least there's a good possibility to make yer changes stick. ;)

I don't own a Tundra yet but it's my dream truck.

This Toyota radar stuff I've been reading about is making me somewhat nervous about the prospect of buying a new Toyota product, however.

Toyota seems to be involuntarily dumping bothersome tech stuff on to loyal owners who still like the simpler life on the road.

I just want to cruise and hear classical music with the a/c on: not BEEP, BEEP every few seconds unless I'm playing this number:


Buyers of these new rather expensive cars and trucks should be afforded many individual personal choices for their money.

FWIW, we bought a new 2019 Tundra Platinum just over a month ago, and the Lane Departure on our truck does NOT nudge the steering wheel when you drift out of your lane. It just beeps at you. There is a switch to turn it off.

Can it be turned off permanently? Does it have to be turned off every time the truck is driven?

I'm specifically interested in a new SR5 model.

I like things the simpler the better. I don't want a vehicle that has to be constantly baby-sitted.

Once you turn off the Lane Departure, it stays off. You do not need to turn it off every time you drive. On the 2019 Tundra, these systems are not the "latest technology", but are more similar to what was released back in 2015. The Camry has the latest stuff.

Well, I'm glad to know that about the "Oh, What a feeling!....You asked for it, you got it!!" trucks anyway. I never asked for TSS, however.

I love my 1995 Corolla DX and I'm still driving her with 105K original miles. Key-start ignition, factory air, am/fm cassette, PW, PDL and 3-spd w/ OD transmission. Plain and simple. That famous Toyota Runs-forever reliability. Made in Fremont, CA.

I have a Garmin Nuvi perched on the ashtray for a NAV system. I don't smoke anyway.
