I had a friend send me the following. Does this sound correct? Has anyone tried this on an 06 or 07 Tacoma?

------------------------------------------------------
The second programming option allows you to set the doors to lock when the key is turned on, and unlock when the key is turned off.
  1. Open the driver's door. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  2. (Complete these steps within 30 seconds)
    1. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
    2. Close, then open the driver's door 2 times.
      (SHUT - OPEN - SHUT - OPEN)
    3. Turn the key from LOCK to ON 5 times, ending at ON
      (LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON)
  3. Programming option (select one of the following).
    1. [Ignition controlled lock ON] Close the driver's door.
    2. [Ignition controlled lock OFF] Close the driver's door twice, leaving it closed.
      (SHUT - OPEN - SHUT)
  4. Turn the key to LOCK. The programming is complete. If programming did not occur, start over

Someone posted this a while back. I cant remember the title of the post. I forget if it works or not. It seems so freeking silly. I remember someone saying you have to pat your head and rub your belly while doing this.

One way to find out, try it yourself and let us know how it works out.

I tried something like this months back. After about 30 attempts, still no luck. Needless to say I gave up and concluded it doesn't work

Doesn't Work! Just tried it.
Maybe this only work on trucks with the Toyota alarm system?

To cut corners you can just press the rubber door indicator instead of closing and opening the door a bunch of times so you dont look like a weirdo in the parking lot. I never tried it cause my truck already does it.

I have a 2006 equipped with the factory alarm, and it didn't work for me.

I recently changed my battery and my problem is that when I turn the key to 'ON' position/start the engine while having the driver door open, the door will lock. It used to not lock starting the engine while having the driver door open. Sometimes I find myself locked out of my truck in the morning.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Here's a link to a manual for the 2006+ Toyota VIP RS3200 alarm system. It's for a RAV4; the only difference is that the Tacoma version has a glass breakage sensor instead of a radar intrusion sensor. (Interestingly, the sensors look the same!) All of the operation and programming information is the same and applies to the Tacoma, minus the radar part on pages 11-12.
