The German Castrol is a Gruup IV PAO oil, however the North America one is still Group III hydrocracked. People are getting pretty good wear numbers from UOAs and this oil even has it's own dedicated sub forum on bitog forums. Ever since Mobil 1 downgraded to Group III, this oil got pretty popular. Has anyone here had first hand experience with German Castrol?

I don't have any experience with that particular oil, but I've been living in Germany for a while and noticed Germans only change their oil every 15,000 K's or every 6 months. Personally I'm an amsoil nut, and don't think that there is a better oil made. Only the best for my engines-

This oil was popular even before Mobil switched their base stock without telling anyone. That was just another reason to not use Mobil1. Engine noise and shearing/thinning, being the others.

You can't do any better for the price. Really. Especially when they have rebates available (see sig).

Amsoil is good stuff and I'll go back to it if/when they stop importing the GC. Even still, I have a nice 3 year stash. :D

They change it every 15k because it's like 3x the price there as it is here. It makes very little sense which is why we are unsure, even though it sells pretty well now, how long Castrol/BP will continue to offer it here in the states. The cost, for them, really doesn't add up.

This is the same stuff they offer here. See how much they want for it if you ever get a chance. http://www.castrol.com/castrol/productdetailmin.do?categoryId=9011732&contentId=7022030

$10 rebate even better

Hopefully they will not stop importing it soon. As I understand, only Autozone seems to carry the german castrol.

you a mobil 1 fan?
No - but for as long as you've been around on this board, you should know this topic has been covered multiple times, and that many folks are running GC in their Tacomas.

Kinda like me starting a thread and asking if anyone is running Donahoes....

i must have misunderstood you with my first response. but the GC 0w30 is a group IV. it is the only castrol syntec that isn't group III. I haven't done a uoa with the gc yet, but i may at my next oil change, i'll definitely report back if i do one.

It's not that expensive, it works out to $15 a quart. -http://search.ebay.de/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&from=R10&satitle=castrol+0w-30&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D3&sadis=200&fpos=Postleitza&ga10244=10425&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search&fgtp=

Yeah man everything is 3x as much in Europe. Gas is about $6.50 a gallon here, luckily I get a discount on base.
Oh yeah, I know. I lived in Germany for 11 months for school/internship.

Cost is a good motivator to not be so wasteful. Something I have always believed we take for granted.
