installation and function of "oil catch can"

I have an oil catch can installed on my 92 corolla, but I have a 16v 4AFE.
The purpose is the same, it keeps oil that would normally come out of the PCV valve on the valve cover from going into the intake. On a stock car there is a hose connecting the PCV to the intake. An oil catch can goes in between these and allows the gases and vaccuum to come out of the valve cover, through the PCV valve, then travel through the hoses into the oil catch can where the oil stays, and the clean vaccuum air continues out and into your intake.
I installed one on my car because I had oil filling up my IACV in my throttle body, and generally gunking up the inside of my intake manifold. Ever since installing the catch can my throttle body and intake manifold have been spotless. Its supposed to improve fuel efficiency as well by reducing oil getting on the spark plugs inside the combustion chamber, but thats a long shot.
You can see it a little bit here. Sorry its an old picture when I first got the car. Was one of the first things I did to it. The catch can is to the left back of the intake manifold in the picture. You can see the hoses coming from the PCV and intake manifold going to the catch can.

function of a catch can is to just catch the oil when you corner hard, so it wont be burnt up. my buddy fills his catch can at track events on hi rwd 4age.
installation is more or less what this bad drawing shows.
when the catch can works it means no blue smoke, but once it fills up you gotta becareful cause oil can blow your distributor seal.

Many years ago I purchased a car with so much blowby the air filter would clog in about 6 months. (Instead of a draft tube, it had a hose from the valve cover breather to the air filter cover.) So I took a Renuzit air freshener and gutted it, glued in fittings for the 'cut' hose to fit both ends and installed a foam pad inside. Every few few weeks I would pop open the 'can' and dump any oil and squeeze out the foam. Worked great. 1977 on a '68 Dodge. Maybe I should have had it patented. :lol:
To keep the oil from burning up? Im so confused. REALLY confused why you would fill the catch can with oil which could potentially force oil out of the return line and into the intake manifold would could really mess things up in a large amount.

you dont fill it, it fills up from the constant G force of hard cornering. i personally dont use one. i have buddies that also use them on their turbocharged cars cause if they dont the turbo sucks in a bunch of oil and burns it.
why would you if it cause more problems, lol your supposed to keep an eye on it, but some odd reason my buddy's ae86 likes to dump oil into the catch can. onces it fills up all the crank case pressure has nowhere to go.
