Good day folks. New to the forum. I am waiting for the delivery of my 2023 RAV4 Limited (gas model). I ordered it back in may as a 2022 but its now a 23 model due to delays. Have a question, my dealer is telling me that Toyota is only leasing cars and not selling. Is this correct has any one else ran into this. I want to buy it. I live in Gatineau QC if that makes a difference . It should not but who knows. thanks folks

Never heard of that nonsense, and I’ve got a few friends waiting for their new Toyotas to arrive as well. Could be the dealer is yanking your chain to get you to sign a lease agreement.
thanks for the response, he is telling me that is a Toyota thing and that I could buy the car after I start my lease. I think its BS as he will make a couple of dollars more charging me from leasing to buying. When it does come in I will hold my ground. From what I am hearing of Toyota quality I expect to keep this new car for at lease 10 years. I am 72 so I am figuring this is my last car. My present vehicle is a 2014 Escape, and my 2 previous before were Santa Fes. I have not heard a bad thing about Toyota quality, so I am joining the family

Since you are waiting for your '23 to arrive. Might as well shop other dealers. Maybe you will get a slightly better price? Maybe you will be able to actually 'purchase' outright instead of dealing w/ the lie(s) from current person/dealership.

May your future ride be trouble free.
The price was very good and I got a excellent amount for my trade. Plus their service department has a very honest and steller reputation. I am going to talk to Toyota Canada about it. Either way I am going to buy it and not lease, I do not think they want to argue the point. I was curious if others have had this approach from their dealers.

thanks, that is my take as well
OUI!
In Gatineau... If he pushes that crap about leasing. Tell him "DIS-MOI SVP; C'EST TU ECRIS CRETIN DANS MON FRONT?" Then tell him there's lots of Canadians and Québecois on Toyota Nation. If he doesn't deal right that on top of complaining to Toyota Canada that you'll post the stealership's and his name for posterity in this current thread. :devilish:
Definitely not great for sales.

Toyota warranty is nation-wide. You can buy it at another stealership and go there for service too. And then ask him how he likes your bought elsewhere car

There's a reason many Canadian companies don't deal in Quebec (aside from the French only laws) and that's because Québec also has the toughest consumer protection laws in Canada. I was born and lived in the province for over 41 years before leaving in 2004 for Manitoba. Here you can get all government service in French and English. All government publications are bilingual, No forcing a language on anyone. I was one of a few Federalists in hard core PQ country and raised and educated in both languages. Spoke better French that those that demanded everyone speak French. My business philosophy was simple: If I would have had a bunch of Japanese speaking customers I would have learned to speak Japanese to serve my customers. Speaking English didn't stop me from speaking proper French! (That rant felt good :ROFLMAO:)

Welcome to the site Stephen -

As mentioned, No, Toyota has not moved their business model to lease cars rather than sell them. To Toyota corporate there is no difference: in a lease or a sale the bank buys the car (if financed) so it is always a sale (even "Toyota leasing" is still a bank backed transaction and the inventory is sold). Leasing is another way to make some money and keep stock moving. If some person there is saying that, ask them to get the sales manager, dealership manager, and sales staff to please come to the front and to repeat, then inform the manager you will be taking your business to a dealership that is competent.

Completely untrue. I'd go somewhere else. I wouldn't trust your dealer. Maybe talk to GM. If they say same, I'd walk.

My guess is this unscrupulous (dishonest) dealership is actually part of a corporation that owns many dealerships/franchises covering many brands. The days of the family-owned dealership are waning, but if you can find one-they are Usually the best place to do business. In these conglomerate owned dealerships, their salespeople are Not Known as honest, intelligent, caring people, in fact they go from brand to brand-dealership to dealership, and the only thing they care about is making a dollar today. Have you ever noticed; dealerships are always hiring new salespeople? The guy selling fords today, will be selling fiats tomorrow-regardless of what he is selling, he can get you a great deal-today. You see a lot less of this in family-owned dealerships....just saying.

Unfortunately, mostly very true. I went to a dealer here in NC that was a wheeler dealer :), went to another and got my XSE at MSRP, which is mostly a deal now days.
