All of the reference material that I have consulted, detailing the standard and optional equipment/trim levels for the '04 Limited, list woodgrain inserts as a standard interior trim feature.

For future questions like this you can go to the Vehicle Specifications page of the Toyota Owner’s site, enter your VIN, and it will give you the list of how that car was equipped at the factory and some presale parts like running boards.

I have an 2002 Highlander Limited and mine has the simulated wood grain for dash, console and switch plates. But the sill plate, located below the scuff plate, at bottom of the doors was just black plastic. I sent mine off to have them refinished to match the other trim pieces. I'll post some pics of them when I get back home. They really look great and added to the look of the interior.

Where did you send it out to match the wood finish?

Hey Pharmcat! I noticed you have an LED lightbar button in place of placeholder plastic "dummy" switch. I'm actually planning on doing something like this myself, would you mind telling me how you ran the wires to the firewall?

Thanks!

Hey Lowlander, yes, the lighting was so poor in these older Highlanders. When I opened the doors, the lighting was very dim at night, couldn't see a thing! I got the switch off of Amazon. I'm not that knowledgeable in car electrical work, so I got a friend of mine to do all the work. I can find out how he did it though. I put LED light strips under the driver and passenger dash and also under the center console. He wired it when you open the door they all come on then go off with rest of interior lights. The LED light switch lets the ambient light strips come on while driving. Also, he put in a switch in the upper console to give me a sort of map light too. I did design a USB plate to replace the rear ash tray. I did have to learn a CAD program to design it. It took me about 3 months to learn it. I'm having trouble posting more pics, I'll send them later

Nice setup, looks clean! Thank you for the reply! My setup is simple and dirty compared to that hahaha. CAD is the way to go, that allowed me to mock up my beefier sway bar brackets.

I ran mine off the dome light, which is wired to some LED light strips I attached in the footwell area. Had to fish a sheathed wire down the A-pillars. I may use that empty button area to install either an LED light bar for when I’m driving out in the country at night, or possibly to power an air horn once I get a compressor going!
