Like they said, that's beyond sad. Americans, steeped in the modern "kick the kids out of the house at eighteen" mindset need to take heed: There is so much missed and even devastating by not living either multi-generationally in a home or at least nearby parents and other family, as people used to do since time immemorial. Yuppies are finding this out now as they crowd into senior centers alone and isolated. As time wears on, the U.S. elderly may very well end up like the Japanese.

I've read about that somewhere. They commit petty crimes to get locked up, then do repeat crimes once released. They're building new "jails for the elderly" because in reality they're "harmless crimes"...stealing a bike to take to the police station and admit they stole it, theft of food (because they're hungry), and things like that. Their children may or may not visit them (most don't), so they're locked up in special jails where they do things and are safe from the younger generations. It's almost like our elderly care places, except they don't have to pay (although they aren't allowed to leave until time is served).
Once the Dems get into office, you'll get your wish Kev. But, it'll be for different reasons like not being able to keep their own homes, or not having any money to buy food. It's happening as we speak.
