it does look a lot better, but my question is will these get hotter than the amber bulbs my truck came with? The new bulbs are 4157 just like the old ones, but the ones are 8.3 watts, how many watts are the old ones?
Yeah mine were as well. I got a set of clear sylvanias which is the same brand the truck came with. I just wanted them to match my headlights and they do.
Does anyone know what the wattage is of the stock 4157 turn signal/DTRL bulb?
Someone has to.
Just go take a multimeter and measure the resistance over the two contacts of the stock bulb. Then take 12 and divide that by your resistance. This gives your current, or amperage. Now multiply your amperage by your voltage (12V) and you'll get your wattage. Simple? Now go get that meter and answer your own question!
Okay well it might take a second look, I think the battery in my meter is dead because its reading too much resistance. BTW Its the same bulb for DTRL as not, mine is 4157NAK (Sylvania), dual filament, but the bulb is only wired for one filament. I'll try again later. All references I googled says 8.3watts though, which would honestly make sense, if it drew more power they'd have to throw in some kinda disclaimer so they didn't have people calling them about blown fuses.
Well the new bulbs I have are 8.3 watts as well so I guess I am good. They look a lot better in clear than they do in amber. I got the Long Life ones that Sylvania makes as well since these lights probably are prone to burning out. Since they burn so hot all the time.
