Lacking Power.

So I bought a 87 Toyota last summer and I've been doing nothing but repairs to it.

It has a nice body and has very little rust, but the engine is looking like its on its way out. I had to replace the timing cover and chain becasue the previous owner drove the chain thru the housing and then coolant leaked inside the engine. So needless to say it now has a spun bearing but it still runs well.

The problem now is that it just seems to lack top end power. I removed my cat and found that part of the "honeycomb" was jamed into my pipe. It was so bad that it actualy backed up the airflow and blew a gasket in the collector pipe towards the front.

After I got everything situated with the exhaust I thought it might free up some power, but it hasnt, I still cant get over 100kph I can run it pedal to the floor on a flat road and it just WONT get over 100kph. It gets to about 2.3 thousand rpm in 4th gear and if I happen to change to 5th I start slowing down to about 80kph.

And before anyone says anything, I'm not some kid looking for a street race-able truck. I work outside the city so my commute requires me to take the highway, which is actually turning out to be kinda dangerous. having a car that cant even reach the speed limit (120) I just end up getting in peoples way.

If anyone has any idea what could be holding my truck back or anything I should check it would be great. Thanks.

If the honey comb broke up, some of it might have worked its way to the muffler, clogging it up the passages.
Hmmm, try these:

- What size tires do you have on the truck? If they are over stock size then you need to either re-gear or get smaller tires

- What did you do with the exhaust?

- what is the overall condition of the truck?

- Have you been keeping up on regular matinence?

Also try taking the rpm's higher in 3rd before you get into 4th. The 4cyl's are pretty weak in the low end.
