I have a 6" fabtech lift and currently using 5.5" blocks to raise the rear end. I don't have much experience with tacomas, but have never liked the idea of using blocks with my other lifts.

What are the other alternatives for my 4wd, 4dr, 2003 taco? leafs, shackles, etc?

Thanks!

I think for 5" your options are pretty limited. I'm not sure if AALs or shackles are made for that kind of lift. How about new custom leaf packs from Deaver or Alcan?

Don't use that big of blocks! That big of blocks puts a lot of stress on your springs and U-bolts. Instead, for economy, go with a 2.5" rear Add-A-Leaf (AAL) and a 3" block or 3" longer rear shackle. For an even better option, try Deaver or Alcan rear custom springs.
I thought that the Fabtech kit came with 3" blocks and 2.5" ProComp AAL's?

that lift comes with a 3inch block and a 2inch add leaf.. so i have NO IDEA why you would have 5.5 blocks? are you sure that is what they are? measure them to make sure. But you can always get custom packs from deaver or alcan or some 5inch leafs from all pro. Or get the block out of there... do a 2inch block, 1.5 add leaf and 1.5 shackles. or a combo of your choice with those three or two of them.

i appreciate all the input. and sure enough- it looks like the off-roading outfit screwed me over with some big 'ol blocks. (my leaf springs are completely flattened out)

Does anyone know what the best set-up would be for offroading? Will I get anymore articulation with an oversized shackle/spring set up- or am I fine just going with some 6" springs?

Thanks again.

For good performance offroad, your best option is with new rear leaf packs. There are readily-available 5.5" springs from All-Pro Offroad that are designed just for our trucks. They aren't that expensive either. Right now they have a deal going where you can get new Bilstein 5100 shocks, bushings, extended brake line, and new 5.5" springs for $425. You can get just the springs for $249 right now.

For a decent budget setup for offroading, you can get alcan rear AAL's and longer shackles for a good price from Toytec.
