Light Weight Performance

An aquantance (i think that i spelt that right) of mine drives a 91 integra 2dr Ls(yeh i think its LS) 5spd - his engine is stock except for a ported/polished head/intake/exhaust and yet he pulls low 14s high 13s 1/4 times - the car is basicly a frame and a shell - this might be a lesson to anyone looking for quick performance gains - you probably wont want to go to the extent to get rid of the basic creature comforts however just a simple thing like taking out your spare tire or running light weight rims can really increase your performance as well as fuel economy.

I realize most people already know this - it just seams like there is alot of talk about sc/turbo around and not alot about light weight componants.

yeah i want to reduce weight from my 2003 camry...except i don't know what to take out...lol nothing i can...
:p:
0-100kph in like 10.6 seconds stock...112kw 4cyl
so my engine turboed or s/c'ed would need like 200-230kw at the flywheel to keep up with a v8 or wrx...hahaa which does high 13s 1/4 mile...

mr2 has a engine of around 110kw and it does 0-100kph in like 8 sec?
so yeah my car is like 1500kg...the mr2 is 1100kg? so yeah 400kg lighter makes a difference...
Along with weight reduction, comes the ever important suspension. Cant keep the power to the ground if your car isnt that good with suspension mods.
One way to lose weight from your car without taking anything out from it is to go on a diet.:D
I am thinking about getting a RX-7 or something as a freaking all-out project car, and the first mod would be to take EVERYTHING I could out of that car.

However, would it really make a big difference in that car? It's not like they didn't spend a long time making it light.

Well if your gonna go after a something along the lines of an RX-7, grab an AWD Eagle Talon TSI...very nasty things and not too much size difference than a RX-7. That'd be a fun project vehicle their.
^ Na.... go for the rx7. Talons and Eclispes are all over the place. Be a little more original. Ya... awd is nice... but rwd is better.
To each his own. Around here, Rx-7s are like rich kids with Mustangs, every 4 out of 5 have em

Original? Heres original..you want a Mazda? Grab a late 80's MX-6 GT...very nice sleeper.

There are like five RX-7's in Reno, hardly a 'rick kids car' here. All the rich snots have brand new SUV's, or Mustang's.
Wow..talk about polar opposites..only 5? Guess it would be original if you look at things from that perspective.

Well, not literally five, but you just don't see them at all. Same with all the 80's and 90's Japanese 'supercars' - just not a Reno thing.
NO WAY!! What gen? I see like 1 every month. At least '93 - '95's.

Right, right. Regional differences are something else. Back in NY people are crazy enough to hook up pintos and neons
If you guys wanna do weight reduction, talk to our dear friend Zoni_Camry......

go nuts buddy!
Thats awesome and all, but who the hell would just throw away a car like that  - bet it is still worth $15k!!!

Better idea!!!:

How about they can sell any parts they take off the car and use them for mods - so effective cost is still $0.
i like how they remove the body kit...
Talk about catching breeze.
