Lights on Chime

Does anyone know why my Highlander does not have a light on chime when the engine is shut off and you leave the lights on? My 2002 Rav4 has a chime, and every other vehicle I have owned has a chime, but not mine. Do I need to turn it on or am I missing something? Ive looked in the manual, but cant seem to find it??????

Because the lights will go out after 30 seconds after you open the drivers door (page 195 in your owners manual)

I had the 30 second lights on default changed to OFF (dealer does it...its a customizable setting) so if I leave the Headlights on they will go off as soon as I open the door.
Will this happen even if I dont use the auto feature of the headlight system?
And is this valid for the Base model?

I have a Sport model, and have already left the headlights on.
All I can say is here is a link to what the Owners Manual states.

Discription of Auto Headlights Off feature

I am assuming this feature is active on all models but knowing how lacking Toyota documentation can be I would suggest you do the following.

Home work assignment...
1) Get in your HL and start the engine.
2) Turn On the headlights.
3) Stop the engine and open and close the drivers door
4) If the lights go out after 30 seconds you have what is written in the owners manual.
5) Report back your findings...
Okay, I just tried it and it works on the Base model. Hey, thanks guys! I didn't even know it had that little feature. It'll certainly save my butt a few times.

And as I mentioned earlier the time interval is customizable.

The default is 30 seconds but you can set the time to 0, 60, or 90 seconds.

The dealer has to do it.

Shows you how much I was paying attention in class. I had assumed that the customizable settings were for the Sport and Limited trims, but obviously they're not. I think I'll keep the 30 seconds...sometimes that'll give me enough time to get to the tent and start zipping it up before the lights go out.

:D
HMM, mine also works, who knew??
I also found out this weekend that my vehicle had TPMS.
Toyota is wonderful with its documentation.

Yes they are, esp. if you take the time to read it. ;)
Just wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to set the headlights to turn off when the ignition is off, rather than drivers door opened?

I ask because I just had a Viper security auto start combo installed. Problem is that if I accidentally start the vehicle, then turn off, lights stay on until I open drivers door.

Or, if on timer mode (i.e. it turns on when it reaches a preset temp), then I would have same issue with lights remaining ON.

Cheers.
Summerwind you crack me up....!!
