ALERT: Toyota admits they have a new VVTi oil line rubber hose problem and have issued a LSC (Limited Service Campaign) bulletin for 05 & 06 Avalons and 06 Rav 4s.

Owners will get a letter if they qualify. Toyota will replace the hose with another new hose free of charge, not a new metal line that 09 Avalons have. I guess they are tired of paying for new engines if you were lucky enough to fail under warranty. UGH :headbang:

Another bandage for a growing issue that will get bigger as this 2GR-FE engine gets older.

GOOD. I gotta take my aunt's 2005 Avalon in for the intermediate steering shaft anyway. Hopefully the letters get sent out soon and I can get both issues taken care of at the same time.

My aunt got a 7yr/100K mile/$0 deductible extended warranty when she bought the Avalon, and I thought it was silly. Now I'm thinking it was a very good idea..

I have a 2008 Touring. Has this oil line problem been an issue with '08's ? I'm at 31,000 and need to check everything really good before my warranty runs out. I have been having tire pressure light issues for weeks now. Today I finally got the dealer to see if I had a bad sensor, and they determined I did, but had to order thre sensor. It is under warranty for that.
Thanks,

It's kinda ridiculous that Toyota won't replace the part with a all-steel line. :(

billberry12: This hose falls under the 5yr/60K power train warranty. You can google: "avalon oil leak" and read the stories from many different forums on this hose failure. Most have said it happens between 45K and 65K miles on this engine which is on Camry, Avalon, Highlander and RAV4. Most had no warning. Some had damaged engines from little or no oil left. The fact that Toyota has finally admitted a problem exists as these hoses age is huge but the cheap bandage approach is disappointing. :headbang:

I had the vvti line replaced a couple years ago at around 19K miles because the line leaked. It is not leaking now, but I made an appointment to go in for this campaign on Monday. It is supposed to take about an hour. With 58K miles on my 2005 I hope this new rubber hose fixes the problem, but I'll probably install an all steel line in the future.

Thank you soo much!!!!

I contacted Toyota regarding this and they said if my engine failed due to a faulty VVTI line (which it did) then they will reimburse me for any costs I had so long as I have a detailed list and receipts. It looks like I am not in the hole anymore. I just hope Toyota doesn't try to screw me over something.

Thanks again!!

Thanks. Mine is rubber. I guess I will mention this to my Dealer next time I get the oil changed. It will be interesting to see what the response will be.

I just received my letter this week for my '06 XLS. Coincidentally, I was scheduling an appointment to figure out why I have some valve noise, usually indicating some sort of oil problem. Not the type of stuff I had become accustomed to since my first 1977 Corolla and Celicas, through this one.

Toyotas constant problems are becoming similar to what GM and Chrysler owners endured in the 80's.

I have an '06 Ltd, so I'm probably affected ... is this a hard job to do myself? Why not just order the all steel pipe and put one on in the driveway? What am I getting into if I do that? I'm at a 100k mi, so warranty is gone for me ... I'd just assume do this as a preventative thing.
