Hi guys,

Sorry if these questions have been answered before, I don't get much time on the PC to search threads so I need a little help.

I am looking at buying a 4x4 DC, and I really don't want to buy entire "option packages" for just a few things I need/really want. So, my question is, can I get a "base" 4x4 DC and order it with either a LSD or a Rear Locker as a stand alone option? Or do I need to drop big bucks on the "package"? I plan on installing the OEM cruise control mod, overhead compass/temp console, Muth LED/heated mirrors and a Gentex auto dimming/homelink mirror myself and a base 4x4 DC Tacoma has everything I want except for the LSD/Rear Locker.

You can get an SR5 with a LSD per special order. Not sure about the locker.

I believe you can get the locker with the pre-runner (2wd) model, but I'm not sure you can get it in a 4wd without the TRD OR package. But if it's locker or LSD, sounds like your set with an LSD option.

Something to think about is the TRD OR and tow packages if you want to tow or offroad a lot. Between those 2 packages (i think it was just those two) I got an upgraded alternator (130amp), bigger battery, oil cooler, sport seats with lumbar support, class IV hitch and wiring, locker, and a few other things I'm sure.

Probably the biggest things for me are the towing, bigger alt, and sport seats. These seats are better than anything else I've sat in for my wife (2 back surgeries) and myself (no surgery, but sore back most days). It's not something I would've paid extra for or swapped in later myself (if it could even be done easily), but we're sooooo glad it came with them! :clap: Bigger alt comes in handy jump starting cars and will help when I add more lights for off-roading, and eventually upgrade the audio. I'm sure the oil cooler helps too when I offroad and helps reduce engine wear (again, not something I'd do myself, but since it came with it....).

The locker is nice, but haven't really used it much. Mainly due to the 4-lo only limit until I modded that. Will probably use it more when I actually have time to offroad now. From what I've read on here the LSD is rather useless or hard to engage when you need it so you might want to go for the locker. At least that you can push a button to make it engage NOW rather when the truck thinks it should.


Basically, those packages have a lot that you may not think you want or need now, but down the road you'll be glad they are there.
