Long story short, dropped key when running, someone found it and instead of leaving it visibly somewhere on the trail, took it with them. I posted signs about the lost key, had my car towed to the nearest dealer, where they let Me leave it for 5 days until they wanted me to move it off the lot. Exactly 50 minutes after paying $480.00 for a new key to be made, the person who found the key called and told me where I could find it. Jump forward almost 8 months later, my $480.00 key goes missing. It's nowhere to be found. I called the dealership that made the key for me and they refuse to make me another key unless I tow the vehicle to their shop and purchase another brand new one. Now, don't they already have the data on the one they made me just 8 months ago? This is crazy! No arguing with them, they absolutely refuse. So I guess here's my question, I know that the keys bought off eBay are more than likely not to be able to be programmed because they are already programmed for a specific car but since I have my original key back in my possession is it likely that they could reprogram it back to my car? That is really what I need to know. Thank you very much

I assume you already tried the original key?

Is this supposed to be a puzzle ? You are running and you lose a smart key and it has to be towed to the dealer. Didn't the car come with two to start with ? You have key made and also get lost key back now you should have three keys. You misplace the key you had made you should still have two so what is the problem?

Yes, it originally came with two, I moved across the country and the spare key got lost in the move. Never gave it another thought until I lost the key while running. That key which was eventually returned to me was deactivated by the dealer when they made me the new key. I could have had two keys made at that time but it would have been another $480.00. So decided I would be extra special careful with the new key. Took every precaution to only use valet key when out for a run, by the way, a new valet key was another $250.00, which I didn't have made but the one on the key that was eventually recovered still worked. Anyway, I had a medical procedure on Friday and was quite loopy when I got home but my dog needed to go out so I thought I'd take her out and check the mail at the same time. As far as I can recall, that was the last time I saw the key. I think I may have tossed it in the dumpster with the dog poo and junk mail. So the problem is, my new key is long gone in some landfill out somewhere I don't even know where, however, I do still have the original key that was deactivated. My question to the forum is, does anyone know if, since it was originally programmed for my vehicle, will it work when I go to the dealer and have a new key made? Long story not so short after all. Thank you for your thoughts
