Is it just me, or is this new 18+ engine design a whole lot louder as far as intake noise? I have a 13 and an 18 TCH, this 18 sounds like the air filter lid is off. I double checked everything and it’s all together correctly. I guess it’s that cheesy plastic square tube looking intake that connects to the bottom of the air box that’s causing it.

Square looking box, if we were referring to same piece, is air intake resonator. It has some guy name to it, forgot what it is. It is, actually, designed to dampen air intake noise.
I'd say, you have something not obviously loose there or some junk inside resonator. Also, I had it discontinued once, just for giggles, as it slows down air flow, to no adverse effect on power train.

I looked up a parts breakout last night, I know what the resonator box is. I didn’t remove it but maybe I’ll check it. The square box I was referring to was the intake plenum that runs up and over the radiator with an opening right in the center under the hood. It’s kind of a cheesy, thin, square tube.

Maybe I’m just used to the quiet of a 13. I’ve had non-Toyota I4 rental cars that had that same intake noise.

I really like the sound my 18' TCH LE makes when I get on the throttle. It just let's out a mighty snarl and woosh! you're off like a galactic star fighter! No downshifting or rowing through gears (there are none) Pretty awesome I think. At all other times, the drive train is virtually silent.
