Hello everyone, been awhile since I've posted, but I seem to be having a problem. First the specs. I have an '05 Tacoma Regular cab, 4x4, 2.7 liter, manual transmission. 34000 miles. In the last several weeks I have noticed a loud knock when I am accelerating or slowing down or turning. It doesn't happen all the time, seems to be random and always at slow speeds. I am very familiar with the a/c compressor grind and fuel tank thud, so I know it's not one of those. I've grown accustomed to those noises. This particular noise sounds as if something were lose and banging around under the truck. It seems to be coming from the drivers side, under the cab or under the bed closest to the cab. I've looked under the truck and checked to see that it wasn't the spare tire. I couldn't see anything loose and the spare was secure. The noise is quite loud and startling at times. Other times, it's very low. Anyone have any ideas or similar experiences? Could it be something to do with the transmission or clutch? I am going to take it in to the dealer next week, but I thought I might see if anyone in these forums might have had or be having the same problem.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post!

Did you install a lift kit? IF so you may need to tighten your Ubolts tighter than Toyota specs. mine were too loose even though I tightened appropriately and mine would knock at low speeds turning left or right over embankments or whenever the suspension was twisted... tightening eliminated the noises. Another issue may be the cab mounts....but probably not.

No, no lift kit. Everything is stock.

Can you repeat the sound?

is the sound just happening one time or does it repeat itself a few times?

I'm sure it is simple, you just have to localize the sound and narrow the location of the sound down to an area.... can you have a buddy get outside the truck and see where it's coming from? you can only really do this if you know how to repeat the sound.

it might be the cab mounts on your 2005 model..... there is a TSB for it.

It's usually just one time for the loud knocks, but the softer ones are sometimes repeated.

Is this TSB something that the dealer can or will repair under warranty? Is there a place I can get a copy of this TSB? For free preferably.

Since it only happens when the truck is moving, it would be hard to localize it.

Thanks

I've got an '05 that had a knocking even when new that happened when traveling over bumps. The source of mine was the emergency brake cable. There's a metal connector under the bed that would bounce up against the truck underneath creating a constant knocking sound...poor design. I wrapped it in duct tape to eliminate the noise. Could that be your suspect?

Thanks You're welcome.
