Hey guys my rockers seem really loud here lately. My mods are in my sig. Anyone have any idea why they are so loud

Sounds like a valve adjustment might be needed.

I'd start by checking the valve clearances as well.

yeah me too my valve train is louder than my exhaust. or so it seems.

why is it that suckers like us that actually care about their veezy's and reezy's have valvetrain and injector noises louder than everything and then your common nut-job driving down the street in their busted up yote is purring like a pissed off veezy, i mean, kitten. :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :ugh3:

Actually you have a point. routinely people post here about their noisey engines when the fact is 22RE engines are amongst the noisiest engines around.

In fact Toyota engines as a whole are a noisey lot. I figure that they make them to looser tolerances so they last longer

Of course there is a such thing as too noisey, It's just real hard to tell how loud something is in text.

no mine are crazy loud. i think my top end is getting ready to go. probably going to end up with a complete overhaul and new rocker arms and cam. im planning on goign with engnbldrs stuff. i just hope i can get to 100k before it takes a dump on me. its only 90k.

mine too, only like 90k and it sounds like its going out. I have all kinds of noises and pings, I keep looking at it, adjusting the valves and timing and checking the fluids and its not getting any better. I think Im going to pull my timing back to like 0 and see what that does.......sorry to hijack the thread!

one more point

Another thing that will cause noisey valve train on a 22r is over-tightening the valve cover.

The studs that hold the valve cover down are attached to the rocker shaft pedestals and if you over-tighten, then it actually pulls the rocker shafts up and increases vavle clearances.

yeah 22r's are loud as balls but it sounds pretty sweet though not a shitty kind of loud

theres a tick and thern theres a knock, tick being a smll noise and a knock being a bigger deeper noise.

I have some scary sounds comin from my top end but nothing noticable has changed or anything i hope i can rebuild the whole top end this summer....hopefully it holds out till then
