I have a Magnaflow cat back on my Matrix. Definite improvement over stock, in both performance and sound. I'm sure it will sound a lot different on the Tacoma but that's a good thing. I didn't know that they made one for the 4cyl. I found a Gibson cat back for my 2.4l but haven't had the money.

I had an 18" Maggie welded into the stock system on my 01' V6.
75 bux installed. Little or no drone inside the cabin.
I like it. $450 is too much coin to make 2-5hp.
Just have one welded in.

I think magnaflow makes great products. I had a magnaflow cat-back on my Jetta VR6 when I sold it and it sounded like the best setup I'd heard. Personally, I'm going to weld on a magnaflow to my existing system to save money. I like their sound on a Tacoma personally. They don't have that annoying ricey sound from my experience.

My welded in maggie sounds good at WOT and
adult sounding when you are not on it.
I like a chambered sound of a Flowmaster on an American V8.
Not to sure on a rice V6 though.

I only have a 4cyl, anyone know how the mags sound on that?

Because all 4 bangers sound alike, my guess will be fartsy, ricey.
I would suggest keep to the stock system on a stock engine.
You will lose some low end torque on an already low on torque engine.
My bad, I thought you had a six.

Personally I think the Magnaflow will sound not bad on your truck. Just get a 14" long one or bigger so it's not too ricey.

Had a FM (single in dual out with 2.5" pipes out the back)on my 1990 Chevy std cab short bed S-10 with the 2.5. Sounded good. Not tinny at all. Sounded almost like a small block with something like a Cali turbo muffler. Was actually very mellow until about 2500 and had a nice growl building from that point on. Very nice rumble on down shifts. Should souond pretty good with either of the Toyota 4 bangers as they are relatively large 4 bangers.

if you want a deep throaty truckish sound and major seat of the pants gains cut the cat out, get a doug thorley header, and cherry bomb muffler.. run the 2 1/4 from header to muffler, and after the muffler weld on the 2 1/2 inch pipe and if you want an even deeper louder sound get a hedman hedders WAZOO tip or large slash 13" long expansion chambered tip, it sounds real nice.

I've got the Magnaflow on my V6. I love it. It's got a nice deep sound, but not obnoxious. I did get pulled over by a cop once because of it, but really it's not annoyingly loud.

I highly recommend it.

I dunno about performance wise but I compared my truck (s40 flowmaster with turndown) to another taco with a 18 in magnflow I believe it was (just the muffler) and I liked mine 10x better. The magnaflow did have a nice idle but was much more ricish compared to the flowmaster and not to mention quieter. I got a deal on an IMCO extreme muffler single in/dual out so Im going to be ditching the flowmaster very soon. I'd recommend getting the Magnaflow if you dont want something too loud but turn it down and it will mellow it out more (if thats legal where you live)
