Hey I'm considering a used (I think it's an 03) MR2 (very low miles, but still kind of pricey), but I heard that the manual transmission in the MR2 is different than a regular manual transmission. If that's true, is it hard to get the hang of?
This car is probably the most impractical thing I could buy, but I just love it. :D

No, the 5 speed manual trans of the MR2 Spyder is just your regular 5 speed. I'm wondering if maybe you're thinking of the Manual sequential that comes as a option which is a clutchless trans that you shift manually. Almost an automatic. And from what I hear, problematic. (though I have no personal experience with them)..Personally, I would stay away from it.

All I needed to know, thanks.
Curious though, is it very difficult to find 2000-2005 MR2's? Those are the ones I have my heart set on but it could be a few months before I can get one. I'm just worried the ones near me will get bought up before I can get to them.

'05 was last USDM production year. I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to locate one. Toyota didn't build that many too start with(don't know how many, but all MR2's were of limited production), so you don't see many around. Toyota dealers can locate one for you and have it brought to them. The local dealership did that for me when I bought my 1st MR2. Had it delivered from Irvine , TX .

Ahh, I didn't know dealers would do that. I've seen only a handful within a 100 mile radius of where I live. Not too bad though. Some of them are from private parties though.

I don't know if ALL dealers will do that. What many do is trade one of their cars for the one you want from another dealer and have it delivered. I didn't ask for this, but I told them what I wanted and they just did it. They told they located one, what they would do to get it for me and only asked me if I would mind waiting 2 days for it. Irvive , TX is only about a 6 hour drive from here.
If you decide to go thru a Toyota dealer, just ask them if they can locate one for you and have it brought up or go check it out yourself- if it's not too far..
