thanks.

will try the door lights this weekend. I have a set of 10 168/194 from ebay from a while back. were any of these hard or awkward to get to?

The vanity mirror lights, door lights, trunk light, reverse light, are all 168/194. Got them all replaced to the same led as map lights.

How to make map lights come on with dome lights?

I have a 2018 Camry SE. Apparently only the XSEs & XLEs have the switch on the overhead console that can make the map lights come on with the dome light. Since the SE doesn’t have that switch, what can be done to the SE to make the map lights go on and off with the dome light and still turn on and off with their own existing switch when the dome light is off? Is it wired so that replacing the front overhead console with the console from a XSE or XLE will take care of this or will a new wire have to be run?

Does anyone know how to change the LED bulbs for the map lights in the XLE? I want to put brighter map lights in.
I figured out that the vanity lights above the sun visors are held in by a clip and just pop out, but the map lights don't seem as easy.

i was just looking into this. if i am reading the manual correctly it looks like it is something that has to be done by the dealer through programming. i even heard a certain pattern of pressing the buttons activates this feature but only if you have 3 buttons by the lights. my SE only has two so during my next service i will be asking to have this done.

I hope you’re right. I have the feeling though that the wires aren’t there to do it.

Taking out the top piece with the lights and sunglasses holder is pretty hard. Pull really hard down and tilt the front toward the bottom and it comes out.

There is a harness that plugs in. It has the switches and a mic in it. There is a spare (extra and empty) harness to the side behind the headliner. That may have the extra wiring needed or may be for the sunroof. The car has a LOT of empty plugs in it behind trim pieces. It must be cheaper to use one set of harnesses.

I want to figure out if we can add the Eco/Sport mode switch to our SE's. My mind says that's a simple rocker switch that informs the ECU what mode to go into...I'm probably wrong. I read somewhere that the SE doesn't even have the same pigtails for the taillights as XLE/XSE trims. Sigh. Those upgraded taillights are gorgeous and the SE ones are eh.

How did you replace the vanity lights?

I changed mine a couple of weeks ago and provided this video on another thread. Even though the video is for the 6th generation camry, it's exactly the same for the 8th generation.
