So, I have a 2007 Prius as well as my 2006 Matrix. Prius has a dual horn setup and sounds great. Matrix, on the other hand, has a single horn note and is ridiculously quiet and well... single note does not get as much attention. I would rather have a lower volume dual tone than a loud single tone or a loud dual tone. I do not want to frighten people with my horn (that can actually be dangerous and also stupid). I want my horn to be noticeable, though. I find Prius horn perfectly adequate and would love to just add a second note horn to my Matrix. Anyone done this with Toyota parts? Say a Prius horn set? I do not want to buy air horns, or super loud train horns. I want something that is made for Toyota (Denso?) and will either compliment my existing horn or replace it with a dual note set that will not require a lot of re-wiring.

I got my matrix horn from the junkyard and it plugged in.

Look for a Prius and they should just plug in. The only thing you will need is to find a place to attach the ground from the horn to the body.

I had the same thought and went to a local junk yard, but they decided to close 2 hours early and I just missed it. Will go tomorrow and try my luck.

I've done dual horns before my old Corolla GTS, just have to split the wire harness and connect both to it.

I actually bought two Fiamm Freeway Blasters several times, once for the Corolla and later for the Supra, they're pretty loud... I combined one HIGH and one LOW Tone, it gives you that big sedan horn feel.

I also did this kit with my Corolla GTS, I still have the kit and I'm thinking I might do it on the tC as well, lol. :p

I went to a junk yard and picked off a set of Prius horns. They have the same plug and come in a complimentary pair (low note and high note). Put them in the same position as stock, but the second horn bracket is at 90 degrees (3 o'clock) to the first one, which is at 6 o'clock. Sounds great! Really sharp and loud. I don't know why Toyota cheaped out on the Matrix horn, but gave Prius a good one.

Because the Prius can't be heard on battery power.

That may have been the thinking, but then why do big loud cars have big loud horns? Also, Prius is not always on battery power. In fact its engine is on a lot. And Matrix is a really quiet little car. The whole loud pipes save lives is really a red herring anyway. Been riding a quiet Harley for almost two decades now and people do notice me when I need them to. Because common sense (not so common these days, I guess), road charisma, experience and horn. Good horn is a very important safety feature on any vehicle no matter the engine size or number of wheels, cylinders or decibels emitted by driving down the road.

I think the matrix horn was an upgrade to the Corolla. The matrix is a trumpet style versus my old Corolla horn was a disc.

Some common sense should be applied across the industry. The only issue is the deer in the headlights effect.

My Matrix and the ones I saw at the junk yard all had disc horns. Not a bad thing if you put two of them together with different notes. It works well. The ones I got off the Prius were also discs, but dual note really makes a difference more than loudness, somehow.
