31x10.50 is as big as you can go without lift. 3 inch lift you can get a 32, or a 33 depending on the kit, and how much lift you get out of it. 6 inches will get you to a 35.

This link should help you out with conversions and calculations:

With a stock suspension you can run 265/75/ R16 tires (about 32 X 10.5).
With a 3" lift, generally you can run up to 285/75 R16 tires (almost 33X 11.5). Some guys even run 33X 12.5 tires with a 3" lift (33" tires can often measure almost 34" in diameter). I know a guy running 305/70 R16's too.

You should be able to fit 255/85R16, on the stock rims. with 3" of lift. Depending on the lift, you might need a larger back spacing though.

You will get minimal rub. (only on full right turns against the frame) Here is mine with 255's:

And here is a video of them in action from a while back...

Just do a three inch bodylift and you won't have any problems.
I'd stay away from the body lift if at all possible. With or without the body lift you will experience rub on the frame at full turns of the wheel. The way to get around this is aftermarket wheels with different backspacing, or the dreaded wheel spacers (not good).

Am I the only one running 32 x 11.50 on my factory truck w/ no problems? I MIGHT could make them rub if I was on a steep enough hill and really tried. The maxis mudders I run are not squared off like some tires and clear fine for me. You keep saying you have to have a life, but I say, unless you work the suspension fully and often, go for the 32's. This is the third set on my truck, first BF a/t, that did rub when turned fully, but only due to sharp sides, maxis mudders dont. I even know a guy in my hometown that runs 33 x 12.50. he drives in town 90% of the time, and yes, they do rub, but he loves them, go figure.
