Where can you hook up the temp gauge on the engine for a 90 corolla? The shop couldn't find a place so they hooked it on the lower radiator hose. It works only when it idles. When your on the freeway its cold. The old original temp gauge would go 3/4 high when u ideling and its not even overheating. I heard shops say that is normal on these corolla when they do that. I dont do the work myself cause its a work vehicle i use. Thanks

The lower radiator hose is the output for the coolant after running through the radiator, so that make sense that it would show cold at highway speeds. There are several temp sensors on the car, so I would think they would want to use one of those?

Maybe you have an issue somewhat similar to mine. I've narrowed it down to a problem in the dash, but I haven't pulled it apart to check it yet.

BS, the grease monkeys are wrong. The needle should stay steady right in the middle in all conditions. If not it could be the fans not working, clogged radiator, or bad thermostat.

Why do you think the stock gauge isn't working correctly? You can check the resistance of the sender by the thermostat.

So why didn't the shop test the sender gauge? It's located just above the thermostat. It's possible there is some air trapped in that area which will make it read high intermittently. The sender is just a simple thermistor, a resistor that gets lower resistance as it heats up.

It's located in the small yellow box in this picture.

I'm not sure why you want to add another gauge instead of figuring out what's wrong with the stock one and fixing it. :dunno:

They replaced that too. I dont know much about cars and it aint mine either i just use it. The shop said i can put one if i wanted too and they told me these cars do that. My concern it was showing it was over heating. When i say it isnt mine im not saying i dont give a crap when i see something wrong it goes in.
