My truck is a 94 22re 5sdp 4wd. I just had the valves adjusted and now it sounds like diesel. Anyways I was looking at the enigne and noticed that this litle black thing attached to the intake manifold(SEE PICS) is missing a hose. I can feel the vacuum suction when I put my finger on it. I cannot find a loose hose or anything and have no idea how to search the forums for it. Could somebody tell me where this connects to?

The one picture has an overview picture of it and then the other one has my finger touching the black part.

it doesn't go anywhere. it's a hose used for checking the compression. put a plug on it and you'll be fine.

mine has a hose with a nail in the end there.

just had the valves adj and they are loud?? sound like someone does not know how to adjust valves. you may also try loosening the cover alot of mechs over torque the cover the nuts on the cover should be snug but not tight the tension of the rubber gasket keeps em tight.

Yeah tell me about it. I just spent $290 ona few things when all I asked them to do was adjust the valves and now it seriously sounds like a little diesel! SO if anybody lives in York DO NOT GO TO Weikles Toyota Specialty. The only thing they specialize in isovercharging and messing things up.

Also what would loosening the valve cover do for the valves or is that a suggestion to check?

there is not much clearance for the rockers and if you over tighten the valve cover they will hammer the cover could be part of the noise

That suction noise you are hearing is NOT NORMAL - the fitting where the vacuum suction is occurring should actually have a black SEALING CAP fitted on top of it so no vacuum suction can occur. So someone apparently removed the sealing cap or it fell off. A large toothpick might temporarily seal it off.

You need to have the valves readjusted to .007/.011" (a .007" feeler gauge blade slides through the gaps between the tips of the INTAKE valve stems & tips of their corresponding valve adjustment screws with a heavy drag / stiff sliding fit and a .011" feeler gauge blade slides through the gaps between the tips of the EXHAUST valve stems & tips of their corresponding valve adjustment screws with a moderate drag / fairly stiff sliding fit. Right now they're too loose - probably set to .009/.013 - so you're getting noise and your power and fuel economy will be mediocre at such loose settings.
