Yeah, all "could be's". The car's clean and was on a lease. Dealer's offering me $2300 for my '08 Highlander Hybrid. Great car.....198K....that hybrid. battery won't last forever and just spent $1500 replacing the hybrid oil pump...ouch.

That's way too low. You can get $6,000-6,500 for the Highlander hybrid if you sell it private party.

I've looked at a few 2017 XLE's and JUST the one I might buy is missing the metal XLE next to AWD on the rear hatch. Any clue why that might be?
Maybe it came that way from the factory? I bought a brand new LE w/ V6 in '18 and there was no LE emblem on the rear. I asked the salesmen about it and never received a satisfactory answer. They really didn't know why it came that way.

You would be surprised by the number of vehicles that get damaged during transportation to the dealer (or unloading at the dealer and parking it in their lot, etc). They may have repainted it and forgot to put on a new emblem.

It is also possible it fell off, because they are put on will double-stick 3M tape, and the longer they are on, the harder it is to remove them, but easiest to remove them when new.

Going by Gen 6 Camry trim level's as a standard: as I believe these sort of form the baseworks for a majority of Toyota's excluding trucks.
  • CE/Base
    • I have yet to see a CE badge on a CE/Base model
  • LE
    • These would typically have a badge but if it is the lowest level for the Highlander I can see them removing it
  • SE
    • These would get a badge
  • XLE
    • These would get a badge
  • (XSE, L, VE, Limited, Platium, Premium, Hybrid, etc. etc. etc.)
If anything, the XLE badge was probably removed. My mom's 2013 Sienna has an XLE badge but it looks more like an LE to me as the interior is not as nice as I was expecting.... I prefer to keep the badge's as they are just a simple way of keep the vehicles identity. I am not fond of "blacked out" as to me I want to see the vehicle, not a silhouette of one.

Consider it an upgrade. I have a limited platinum and have been itching to removing all the decals except for the Toyota logo
It is easy to remove the badges,as long as it's above 50F outside. Take some Goo-Gone or Goof-Off and spray on the badges.Let it sit for a minute or two and spray again. Let sit for ten minutes, and take some tooth floss and proceed to remove letter by letter.
