Mk1 stock alarm system

I have a 89 mr2 mk1 aw11 and I bought an alarm system that is almost here to be installed when getting ready to install it I noticed the car has a Toyota factory alarm system. I figured I would contact the dealer and see if I can get a replacement key pod for the Toyota factory alarm. When I called them and gave them the vin they told me there was no factory alarm add on for that car. I am wondering if any mk1 owners out there have a Toyota factory alarm in there car and if there is somewhere I can get a key pod or if it would be easier to remove and install aftermarket alarm system?

I also have the factory alarm on my 89 SC along with an after market alarm. The factory alarm didn't come with a key pod, you have to put the key in the ignition & turn the key on to disable the alarm. Sometimes I use both of my alarms!
So tHe Toyota stock alarm is keypod less? Do you have an alarm on off switch

Yes, I'll take a pic so you can see.
Here you go, I tried to get it a close as possible. ;) It is mounted just in front of the gear shift. The left switch is master on/off & the right switch is motion sensor sensitivity.

That is exactly how mine is and same mounted spot. How does it work I think my siren is broken but couldn't someone break in and turn the alarm off right there? Also with after market alarm did you get keyless entry hooked up and was it difficult if so

You can only turn it off with the key in the ignition. When turned on it will activate after a minute of the doors all closing. After the key is turned "ON" it will deactivate the alarm & you can than turn it "OFF" if you desire. If not the switch will stay "ON" & it will automatically activate the next time the car is locked up & all doors are closed. Mine works perfect. :naughty:
With your aftermarket alarm do you have keyless entry? If so was it easy to hook up and did you have to buy a separate box?

Yes, I have a keyless entry. It operates like any other alarm & is separate from the factory alarm. It was already on the car when I bought it. :D
Might get some slack from aftermarket addicts for this, but go with the factory alarm setup.

I have ended up disconnecting and discarding more aftermarket alarms that appear to be a piece of junk and foul up the harness/electronics than I care to remember.
