More Supportive Seats?

1199 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  94_Rolla_Guy
My Corolla is great, wouldn't trade it for the world, but, honestly, these are the worst seats I've ever sat on. They offer nearly zero lateral support- I have to hold on to the side of my seat when I take a hard turn. Is there any other model of Toyota that gives more support and will fit into my stock brackets without any modding? I might go to the pick n' pull this weekend and maybe I can score some better seats.

The LE seats look to offer more side bolstering. I scored a pair of seats from an 88 GT-S, but there was a fair amount of modification involved to get the driver's side unit to fit--hacking up the existing seat for the frame, welding brackets to the chassis to accomodate differently-spaced brackets, etc. The 7th-gen has VERY nonstandard mounting brackets, so best of luck.

Thanks, so I'm guessing those seats from an 88 all trac that my friend is willing to sell me won't get in without a fight? :sosad:
Let's just say that the shop owner was less than happy when he quoted me a fixed rate based on an hour of labor and found out that the job wound up taking almost 5...
I modified a set of 2002 celica seats to fit they weren't too bad i ended up cutting the mounting feet off the stationary tracks and making ones that would fit the front ones aren't too hard nor is the outside rear the inner one that goes too the hump is tricky they arent all that much better though for support personally i needed lower seats as i sorta out grew my car......i also have a welder and half of a garage of metal working equipment.

the other thing to do is to get some knock-off sparco's or brides or recaro's or something usually you can get them for about 300-500 and either buy some mounts or have someone make you some
The problem with installing Brides/Sparcos/Recaros on a universal mount is that the mount adds about an inch to two inches of height to the seat. If you're normal height, this shouldn't be a problem, if you're like me (6'6" and all of the extra in my upper torso) this is a considerable problem. 94_Rolla_Guy, I know what you mean about outgrowing--did the Celica seats keep you at the same height or (like the 88 GTS) drop you about an inch?
you could try to find jdm ae10? levin seats. those should fit the mounting points of the sedan without any problems. i've seen several for sale here but then i'm pretty far away...across the pacific.
from the stock LE seats that came with the car the 2002 celica seats dropped me down about 1.75 - 2 inches, at one time i had a Sparco Sprint seat in there i had that mounted like 3.5" lower than stock it was really low

With aftermarket seats its all about the mounting you can get them to sit low its all about how much time you spend on the mounting....
I tried modifying a seat from my wreaked '92 to fit my 95. I found the seat was slimmer than the new seat, and had to modify the mounting quite a bit. As said before, It turned into a all-day job.

I did not like it, so I broke down and bought a nice and clean pair of seats from a prizm. I did find the '92's Headrest fit the seats perfectly (And I think provides a fraction of a inch more hight adjsutment...)
yeah it is definately time consuming i think it took me 8-9 hours to get the seats in properly
