Sorry if this has been beaten to death before but just cannot get my head around the poor mpg I'm getting recently.
Driving from Calgary to Edmonton and back on a regular basis gives one a good idea if things change.
The truck was doing approx 22 mpg (Imperial) when I first bought it.
I changed tyres to LT265/75/16 6 ply. The MPG went down to 17+mpg on the same run!
I run there at about 110kph (early in the morning) and back (daylight) at 120/130kph. Besides that journey I drive very conservatively, no really I do!
Here is what I have done in an attempt to grab back some mpg:

- K and N air filter,
- Seconadry air filter removal,
- Synthetic engine oil 5/30W
- Tyre pressures to 37psi

Any other suggestions, apart from drive slower etc?
thanks guys,
Howie.

well you could try to change your spark plugs. what was the original size tires that came with your truck i'm guessing ether the 245/??/16, or the 265/70/16. You could sea-foam it, it's mixed opinions, but i like it, and i plan on doing it every 10k miles, it's supposed to clean out all the excess carbon, and fuel injectors. Did you also change gas?

Original tyres were P265/70/16 so I realise that Lt's and 6 ply will make a difference, but that much?
Sorry to be slow but what is sea-foam?
Thanks for your input,
H.
Other factors such as winter blend gasoline and longer warm-up times for your engine are probably hurting your MPG some....but I am willing to bet your tires are hurting your mileage the most. If you still have your original tires you should swap them back on and see what happens.

it's easier to just go to there website then me explaining it, what is does is that it's a 100% petroleum product that is supposed to clean out the carbon buildup in your engine, and clogs in your fuel injectors. Hey be glad, i don't even get 17mpg. at most i break 16-16 1/2 mpg,

+1

He's got taller tires and heavier and probably knobbier. Because they are taller you are putting less miles on, so that must be factored in. In other words, you may only be down to 18 mpg.

If what has happened bothers you to much, put the original tires back on.
